How 'buggy' and 'unusable' is the MPC Keys 61?

About to purchase the 61 keys and recently saw a video posted by Benn Jordan wherein he experiences some significant crashes/bugs etc. that make the 61 Keys 'unusable' for his needs. I'm curious if those of you who have actually worked on the 61 Keys are experiencing the same kinds of things? And if you feel it was a poor purchase? I appreciate any insight here that might help me make the best decision.

It isn't "unusable". Benn Jordan deemed it unreliable for his live shows, nothing more. While I welcome criticism from a guy with a significant audience, let's not fall into the hyperbole here. it runs the exact same OS as all the other MPC Live and co.

I watched the Video of Benn Jordan !!!!
He said for example that the Pianos are great and thats thrue.
He had Problemes with Recording... I dont have any problemes when recording a Song.
I had a MPC live one and i sold it, than i bot a Roland Fantom 6 and now i have the Akai Mpc key 61.
On the Fantom i was not abble to record something like i wanted. The recorded Dynamic of the Pianos for exemple was not the same when you played it back.
When i record a piano on the Mpc key 61, the recorded piano is absolutly the same when playing back.
For me there are two things that akai hascto change:
1) A good Synthesizer Workstation needs good Brass and Wind Instruments
2) Aki has to make for every Updates good Release Notes....
A few Day ago i sent a email to Akai because i could not find the Possibilty to Change the Polarity of the Sustain Pedal. The Answer from Akai Germany was : Sorry this Funktion is not there!!!
Yesterday i spent some Times on the Mpc key 61 and i found the Funktion to change the Polarity of the Sustain Pedal.

I have the Mpc Bible. Its a great Book that explain how to work the best way wit Mpc.
But ist not a Manual, its much more than this. Akais Manual tries to explain how to work with the Mpc , this is wrong.
The Manual have to show you all the Funktions of the Mpc and not more, so that if you are searching something its easy to find it.
If you realy want to know how Mpc works, than you need the Mpc Bible.
These are simple Things that works wrong at Akai.

MPC OS is unstable and has bugs.
New bugs are coming in place of the fixed ones.
Akai has merged MPC OS into the new device.
What can go wrong?

I just bought an MPC key 61, I'm not so impressed yet, but that can change. I also have an issue with the polarity of the sustain pedal. Can you please let me know where you found how to change the polarity on the unit?

Had mine for a few months. Has frozen a handful of times.

Not too bad, IMO. As always, Save or AutoSave your work.

But if I played it in a live performance, I'd be a bit wary. I would at least not stray too far from a safe path.

Think of the MPC as Windows and your typical roland korg yamaha as Macs...

MPC has more functionality and potential for the money, but the others are more stable, way less buggy and more polished... but in a more closed and limited interface. The MPC is extremely powerful and more capable in terms of FX routing, bus routing, audio manipulation and quick patch creation and modification, sampler functions, the sequencer is good but it is a very buggy keyboard. Eventually they probably will update it to be more stable.

It's frustrating and rewarding to use at the same time.

Its very usable you just have to know what your doin'. That ben dude is ok, but he obviously lacks the keyboard programming knowledge to use this device. Does it have bugs? shitton of them, but with a few tweaks and tricks Im using mine just fine as a 16 part multitimbral synth splits & layers!! Since the cpu is kinda puny cant put more than 16 parts at once or the cpu will max out and crash/freeze the unit. My cpu is sitting around 37% 16 keygroups & 3 plugins. Put in an octacore/decacore + 8GB RAM and in would do 32 parts easily! We can dream cant we?

I've had mine for over a year and never had any significant issues. Just freezing a couple times during longer sessions. I use it almost daily and have done almost 2 albums on it. So it's not unusable by any means. I dunno what he's tripping on. Probably just being overdramatic for clicks.

Ben made a follow up video saying that the unit he had was messed up which was confirmed by Akai, but whatever. Anyway that's old news. This thread is like 2 years old. All MPCs are equally buggy as they wanna be. Lampdog you're fool for that meme.
