Enough is enough.. I remember a time when Rook and Illmind and a few others were here. Andy Mac would jump in from tine to time, engaging trying to figure out what users were looking for. Why the hell is the software still in beta and they still keep dropping new devices? I feel like we get neglected and forced to buy the new and improved next thing. Why we gotta spend thousands of dollars on gear that somehow becomes obsolete a year or two later? shit is wack. There's no reason why we we got spend thousands of dollars to only be left behind because the new stuff come out.. Why after all this time is the software still in beta? Andy.. how do you still stand behind this shit knowing damn well you ain't doing power users right? I bought the X SE at full price only for Akai to drop a new flagship 5 months later. Shit scummy. Why is the software still in BETA after all this time? Y'all com[any literally wouldn't be shit with out us diehards and this how y'all still chose to be? Do better.

I understand what you're saying, but I disagree. The software might be labeled as beta, but it's at a production-level usable state (at least for me it is). The core functions work, and even though there are some bugs here and there, it works. The extra functions that have been added—most of them work, and yes, some of them are beta.

No one is forcing anyone to buy new hardware, and your hardware isn't outdated. The OG MPC X is from 2017 and it's still supported after 9 years, running MPC 3.7.0.

I get the feeling that you feel left behind because of these Gen 2 devices that are coming out. For me, the new functionality such as streaming audio through USB-C is a godsend feature. Also, my projects don't suffer from a lack of processing power anymore. My MPC XL has plenty of horsepower, so there are no more clicks and pops while playing back my songs.

So again, I disagree.

What I do think Akai did wrong with the previous generation of Gen 1 MPCs is that they were released with underwhelming specs: 2 or 4 GB of RAM and old Rockchip chips, while the modern tech world was already at a standard level of releasing computer hardware with minimum specs of 16 GB of RAM, multicore processors, and 1 TB SSDs.

They also lied when they said that the controller mode software and standalone software were the same.

I think people should buy gear and use it for what it can do at that moment, not for what they wish it could do.

And why are you calling out Andy Mac on this? In the end, he's just an employee and a hell of a product promoter. And he's doing his job very well.

Just tell us what your frustration is really about.

You aren't the only person who feels this way @ op. (lol @ your name shits jokes) anyways.. I think alot of us dont want to shell out. I dont need to keep up with the jones' to be down with anything and neither should you. I don't know what's up with modern culture... people always wanna buy into a style now. if you dont got the shiney new new then you're whack or something. that's not realistic to me, -that we should reinvent ourselves, our studios, our minds every few years just so we can be in competition with everyone else. Nobody can realistically sustain a life like that. Just buy shit toss it move on. Sure if you got big money but that's a mad stupid waste of money...

wasnt hip hop about individuality and making underground music on the cheap? stuff your peeps could feel? even drum n bass.. now its this world wide comercial bullshit.

you arent wrong. its not wrong to resist this new cultural urge to be a conformist in a sea of conformists competing to be the next whatever it is they chase.

The goal is to be creative and inventive not to beat a dead horse and as long as you stay moving forward in your own way thats what matters. some folks get stuck on stuff trying to be somebody..

I am not selling my mpc one, in fact im'o git me another one!

I agree, I bought a live 3 and sold my se but I don’t like doing it.. I really had to though because I needed the processor but I think it is terrible how they released the se as the most powerful mpc and dropped it up calling it a collector piece, knowing they were working on a replacement that would leapfrog it in specs. That is dirty.. if I don’t have so many plug ins already I might have switched platforms for a while, in the end they got me hooked though in their sneaky ecosystem.

At least though the se still has some stuff nothing else does like the knob’s on the side and it looks the best I think. Plus it really is fully supported still and probably will be for a long time, just can’t do certain stuff that’s really complicated, they know a lot of people won’t upgrade and they will keep developing the gen 1 system… most other companies would never do this.
I don’t understand though how so many are quick to spend three grand on a mpc so quick, I would never and I make good money/ love the mpc. Only reason I bought a se was I got it for a great price and sold it for more then the live 3 costs, but I’m not going to play that game either, I’m with you on that. I just got lucky I guess, I would still rock the se no problem, it is a fire box.

The problem is that Akai thinks their Apple.
They make more hardware before even making a proper OS, pushing updates on old hardware until they start stuttering, become irrelevant, then... even before fixing the previous problems.... they release an army of Hardware/Plugins/Samplepacks.

I think with how many iterations of Mpc's have been released, it's turned Akai into a joke.
"An Mpc for everyone, every shape and size"
Sometimes when trying to Appeal to Everyone you start to Appeal to No One.
Common issue in many industries.

They really should of focused on the main soul of the Mpc, instead of bloating it up.

The X-SE looks great, but they should of given it the processing power of the Xl to make it more future proof, but maybe Akai hadn't solidified there design decisions, or something along those lines.

I just can't support with a $1300.00Cad raise in price from the X to the XL, and then how the OS looks and works, none the less how automation works. Sorta a joke. I would rather slave a good sounding sampler of my choice to my DAW.

people like to claim the software is bloated simply cos of features they dont want have been added, but those added features have not slowed the functionality of the device.

to me bloat is only a valid claim when the performance in being hindered as a result of new features, but sampling, chopping and sequencing on the X-SE still works essentially the same as per legacy MPC's on X-SE esepecially if still running 2.x software.

4GB will still give the SE a good few years of life, especially in comparisson to the other gen 1 devices that are still able to run most of 3.x software features without issue.

The MPC X was already eight years old when they dropped the SE, and many rumors at the time of the incoming 3.0 refresh for the whole line. Far preferable to getting these new upgrades than MPCs ending up like Maschine+ dying on the vine

It doesn't make sense to hate on a company for making different units for different users & their unique needs. They don't expect everyone to them all like Pokémon. Buy what you want & mind ur business about the ones you don't want. Simple!

What does SE sand for?
It's still great unit today & still overpowered to some people based on how they use the MPC. You do know that you don't have to upgrade & the XL doesn't make the SE or any of gen1 MPC useless. There's still people making heat with older MPCs. Akai has a history of releasing a SE when that model is over...That's kinda what makes it the SE & they usually give it some extra things so it can go out with a bang!

What the hell is the soul of the MPC?
Most of the main features from classic MPCs are still there & you don't have to use any of the new features, plus you can customize the pad menu to assign different menus to the 16 pads so you don't even need to see the rest of the options. You bloat argument is more of a you problem but, luckily you can work to overcome. Good luck!

I get what your said almost sold my X but after a years in mint condition and never moved I cant sell it .. if you needed the cash I understand but the X SE is collectors item for the next 20 years .. I would have kept it . Only reason I didn't buy one because it was only extra ram and i was on the fence for key 61 which I definitely should have bought ..

Well said I would have typed the same :-D except the software and firmware on the MPC are the same? What do you mean exactly.. I'm referring pre 3.0 before arranger..

If comparing akai to apple .. most if not all companies would have taken that model.. how did it turn out for the iPhone.. to this day they have almost 90% retention who will upgrade to a new phone not bad at all..

This thread is fun af. i wanna see people tell how they really feel lol. Let it all out!

I am a huge mpc fan despite ripping it apart form every angle and mocking its shortcomings. I love the device but I dont love the price tag and I dont love what they did to our work flow... they straight up fkd it up. THAT AINT IT. I am expecting an mpc to work like an mpc or it aint an mpc.

What more reason do any of us need? lol I am just happy to see ppl piling on.

What they should have done is given us a 2.xx work flow where the arranger view matches the segment we are currently viewing. The clips are quite nice for record to arrangement but they locked that behind a pay wall. It would have been fine if they just gave us record to clip we already had bounce to clip and in a final sequence you could arrange your bounced clip program. If they added record and fx slots to clips on 2.xx that would have worked fine. :hmmm:

The arranger is supposed to be where you record your final clip arrangement (your formatted track) not where you produce your segments like in a daw for instance. :smh: They should have given us arranger view by segment because without the locked feature of clips its useless.

This is very accurate. I bought the Live III (for the 32 plugin tracks x 16 audio tracks + USB-C option, etc...), but I still kept my One+ (running 2.15). That way, I can have the best of both worlds :worthy:
