Nothing about that device is worth $4600 cad after taxes. That's another sportbike in my garage... A midi controller, soundcard, a $100 arm board, and some piss poor software stuffed in abs plastic. It's not like they are universal audio or roland or someone who makes *good gear*.

They're all in the 2800 range.

Fellas. I am Canadian remember? (No pride in that btw) The exchange rate for $2800 usd is $3,836.16!!

Part of it is my dollar is like the mexican peso... carney and his elbows up plan pulled our pants down.

Need a mf loan to get a new mpc in canada. Sleep in the box... "ay ay ay homey ill make you a beat for that crust?"

It's really trippy to see all the stuff you can normally afford zoom off into the horizon with the right morons driving inflation.

Our healthcare is trash these days. Been like that for some time now. I think your thinking it's the 90's/2000's in Canada.

We are getting taxed to death up here.

And we are getting price gouge to death down here in the states. Corporations now have free will to charge whatever they want without any government oversight. If fact, the government is encouraging high prices.

We are living in the last days of Rome

Bro, all and all - Americans pay less for gear and electronics all year round.

It's precisely why many people wait to visit the United States to do their shopping.

I know it may feel like you're getting gouged, but in the grand scheme of things, you are doing good.

The cost of just surviving in the states is outrageous. I’m not talking about gear specifically but all the costs associated with just getting by day to day makes buying things like gear a burden. How many people do you think buy an mpc with cash? I’d argue probably 90% of mpcs bought were on credit considering around 50% of basic essentials and food are purchased with credit

GDP per capita, canadians are poorer than the people in americas poorest state. -mississippi. The average household income is $55,000 usd iirc. that's two people working.

Us canadians could literally move to mississippi and be better off financially than what we are in canada currently. lol. they busted this place OUT during the last 6 years. destroyed out economy, created inflation that basically cant be sustained. a single human doesnt have enough waking hours and kilowatts of energy to keep up to the inflation.

say yesterday you ran on a hamster wheel for $10 a day at 10mph. now all things are 2-3x the price but you are already giving 100% to the wheel. How fast do you now have to attempt to run on the wheel to pay for what you could afford yesterday for $10? (20-30 mph) and thats physically impossible for a human. That is exactly where we are here in canada, the wheel wants more than any of us can now give.

Time to start looting and shooting!

btw o/ my canadian brothers and sisters from 705. ;)

I hear you on the credit card struggle, but as someone who has lived back and forth between both countries, including NYC as of recent, I’m not just speaking out of turn here.

I know things feel heavy in the States, but once you step outside that bubble and see what’s happening in Canada and Europe, it’s a whole different level of bad.

The best proof is that Canadians will take a massive hit on the currency exchange, where 1 USD is worth about 1.40 CDN, and still drive across the border just to buy basic gas and groceries in the US.

When people are willing to pay a 40 percent premium just to shop in your "outrageous" economy, it really shows how much worse the struggle is globally. I could expand on the math a lot more, but I doubt anyone on an MPC forum really cares to read a book about economics.

I hear that a lot, but the "return" on our taxes is completely detached from the reality on the ground here. A simple search will show you that roughly 6 million Canadians don’t even have a family doctor anymore. In major cities, you’re often relegated to walk-in clinics or sitting in an ER for 12–18 hours just to see someone.

As I mentioned above, I lived in the States, and even after paying 8k a year for high-quality health insurance out of pocket, my purchasing power was still way higher than it is in Canada. Those here who can afford it actually end up paying for private care or traveling to the States, Mexico, Cuba, Europe, or Asia just to get things done because our waitlists for specialists are months or years long.

Last year alone, over 100,000 Canadians left the country to pay for medical treatment elsewhere. Until you look outside that bubble, it's hard to realize that "free" doesn't mean much when you can't actually access the system when you need it.
