This depends on your use case. Personally, out of every MPC, I've owned the MPC 4000 works for me. It's by far the most Pro Audio MPC every made so far. It's was built for the professional sound engineer in mind. SMPTE, WORD CLOCK, Full Fledged Sampler, DIGITAL I/O, MIDI, ANALOGE I/0, ADAT I/O, Dual Footswitch, 24/96, XLR and 1/4 outs, Low Midi Jitter, etc. Hard to believe it was made in 2002.

Akai has not released, anything even close to it since.

How many Megabytes you have on mpc 4000?
I am reading you can have 512mb with expansion. That's not too bad actually, current Mpc has less then 1gb of Ram so it's not that bad. And 80gb hard disk is also not bad, with all my libraries I still have around 40gb of datas so it's ok.
What about the effects?
If they are the Akai ones we have on current Mpc, it's not a great deal.
Does it have synths?

512 MB, 80 gb hd that can be swapped out with SSD, It has the same effects that are in the Z8's and Akai DPS 24. No instruments, but it's a sampler with a synth engine, you load sine wave and go at it. The machine is that deep of a study.

Instead of giving people better tools. They gave a battery, splice, ableton link, and a touch screen. I'll give all that stuff up for, Dante with 24 outs, 16 I/O of ADAT, 16 I/O of MADI, 16 analogue outs, 4 midi in and 8 midi outs, A full fledged sampler, 32bit 192 sample rates, higher quality pres, Q link Faders and knobs, HDMI out, and Word-clock to start.

In the long run, that is the kind of tech, that will last. People say that the big studio is going away. But it's just being reborn in a new location. With the move toward Euro rack and tons of desktop synths. People are going to need hardware with more I/O, that these standalone controllers just don't have.

I think they are just doing right, the market moved to smaller studios and computers changed all.
I can see the trend you talk about but it's just a trend.
They just should make a usb to audio or a way to send all tracks digitally and separated so we could send as many outputs as we want.
I think they'll do it sooner or later.

I think AKAI PRO moved from the Pro Audio side, to Consumer audio. They're following apple and making gear that basically smartphones, that are obsolete with a OS change. The MPC ONE shows us where their movement is going.

Now I like the MPC ONE, but I'm not loyal to it. If it's lucky, the MPC ONE may get 2 years.

Akai moves where they sell more.
Mpc at the end is a tablet + controller, isn't it?
I think with audio through usb they could solve many problems and let One send more outputs.
I don't get how a device like Mpc can be useful with just a stereo out.
For that I agree with you, it's consumer target.

Akai has not released, anything even close to it since. This is why I returned the MPC X. These new MPC are centered around, computer software techs and less the audio engineer. This is why the MPC ONE, LIVE, X to me are really the same.

So you've been through the X, live and now use the One as a synth workstation. If the software, hardware (or whatever) is so sub-par, why even use these machines (let alone come on here every day?)

You seem pretty knowlegable but you make the most polarizing statements and seem to negate people on here just to play devil's advocate... Then you backslide or gaslight or change the subject... Stabalize Charles, you could be a big help around here!!✌

Eloquently put, but I'm afraid he's incapable of realizing this. I've been calling him out on this exact thing since I joined this forum. It's sad. At 40+ years old, it's doubtful he'll ever be woke.

i had the LIVE and X. i had them right at launch (you can search the archives). i cut my teeth on the mpc series and have been an mpc user since the early 90s.

i recently sold the X and live last year to change my in-home workflow--I went with a fantom 8 workstation. i use external analog gear so i record to external machines and use midi. my s950 is my most used sampler , with the s6000 for orchestral bits. the X used to control all of that but now the fantom does.

i was missing having a live with me whilst on the go and at namm when i saw the One i knew right away this was a perfect box for what people like me wanted.

right now im at a hotel in vegas (business trip) and i can pack the One, an arturia audiofuse interface, akg n90Q headphones, a 17 inch laptop (im typing on now) a galaxy tab s6 , a portable AC power bank for the laptop and One, and related cables into a backpack that fits under the airline seat. i could NOT have put all of these items with the Live's size in the same sall backpack.

not trying to show off gear , just trying to prove a point that the One is designed more travel friendly. its not really made to be your main interface like a Live (and X for sure) could be. its for portability.i would NOT sell a LIVE or X to get it--thats silly. someone mentioned it does not have outputs to send to external gear--well thats not the primary focus and design of the instrument. the live and X are more catered to those setups.

yall cats will continue to try to bash the One and say its weak, and thats fine. there needs to be a different set of opinions on this thread so those who are surfing the internet can read some users who have good results out of this product--myself included.

at the end of the day, inmusic will sell lots of these. those people will not be here chatting about it. they will be busy creating on it, and thats really the point, isnt it?

this is an MPC forum! lets welcome the One for what it can do instead of what it does not do.

i know i know.. my plea wil fall on deaf ears... :tumbleweed:

As for me, I said Live is better but One is the perfect marketing tool at the moment so hands up to Akai and to One.
But Mpc has always had more outputs for a reason.
But hell yeah, I wish Akai gonna sell a lot of One, it's good for everyone

Because, with the one, all it has to do is render the stems then export. Also I can sample into the MPC and play it live directly into Sequoia, using it as unlimited tape machines. When I say live, I mean physical play it live, using my own timing.

Bought the LIve and the software was broken. Returned. Bought the MPC X to see if it could replace my MPC 4000's and it could not. Got the live, to use it exact how I want, with a mature OS and it works.
