Basically FPGA cores for cycle accurate 'simulation' (it's not emulation but basically a clone of the logic used in the original IC's) .. There's so many FPGA cores for it, Atari ST is cool so you can run Logic and have the same tight midi timing of the Atari ST on whatever you want. I believe the ST is only rivaled by the MPC 60 / 3000 for its timing.

Oh man I hate the ST's GUI haha. Don't forget you gotta find the cracked versions! I setup an ST (and an Amiga) with Cubase so I could check it out, forgot Steinberg used dongles back then too, still have my parallel port one from VST24. C-Lab/Emagic Logic and Logic Notator had one too, think it was also a parallel port one, but by the time I bought Logic they were moving to the XS Key already. My Amiga setup is the straight up 90s Jungle workstation with Octamed hehe. Still can't believe some of the shit we pulled off back then.

Believe it or not, it's probably possible to use the dongle with the FPGA as there's enough I/O to do so but you're right, plus it woudl make more sense to use a cracked version with it. There's actually someone on YouTube showing a demo of using the fpga with the ST core sequencing an ASR-10.

Do you still have your Amiga setup? Also how come you're not on the discord?

What are you two doing dabbling with discord?!? We are the IRC generation. Talkin' bout amigas, fpga cloning then discord.. which one of these things is not like the other? which of these things just DOESN'T BELONG? lol

From memory I found the scarlet to be totally transparent, something definately happens through the MPC,a slight ‘muddy ness’ if thats the word.but that also leads to a slight fattening of the sound imo.ive not found a modern soundcard relate exactly to it.a bit of EQ can sharpen things up tho.all MPCs have this effect.less so the older Akai rack samplers.which seemed brighter…
-Today in the shop I was A/B ing the new One + against the Live 2 (same kit/pattern) and I’m sure the + was a bit sharper.not by much tho.apparently the X SE is also ‘slightly’ tweaked…..according to ‘some’ internet test.Nothing too obvious but that could explain it.certainly not enough to shell a whole lot more cash imo.Altho its always nice to have the ‘new thing’…..I guess :Sigh:

I think we’re at the point where features and convenience override any perceivable sound characters of the unit themselves.the sound is ok and it’s what you do with it that matters……

well, i think it depends on what you're up to. if you have to produce, i mean work a lot, put out new stuff for your customers quickly and all that, yeah, i'm with you. if on the other end you are just creating music mainly as self expression, you might have the need to go for the sound that better translates what you have in mind.
also, the features and convenience can be subjective. there are a lot of things to like in the new line with that touchscreen, cutting samples never been easier and painless,studio\daw like mixing features but... i'm on jjos2xl since a couple of weeks now, put in a 128gb msata ssd and a cf-sd adapter with 128gb sd card (weird, an mpc 1000 with 256 gb storage was unthinkable :D ) for fast libraries transfer between 1000\pc\live mk1 , so now its all comfy, and i must say i still love jjos more than current line. after some time of practice and reminiscence, now all is very fluid, in terms of sequencing editing and chopping. this shows that a great UI\UX programmer can do a lot with very few resources. i think it all boils down to what inspires you the most to do your music.
-------------
EDIT: i'd like to give a few examples on where i think jj user experience shines compared to new line os.
-sequence visible and editable on main screen. so easy, so great, incredible how much stuff you can do on that small screen. of course when you need to fine tweak stuff there's the big view.
-easy shortcuts to zoom in and out vertically and horizontally in sample editor. this is very handy and quick
-awesome integration of audio tracks: no need to go to a different "part" of the mpc, audio tracks muteable from track mute window, easy recording.
-great step edit features, all clear and easy.
-very great mixing features considering the few resources.
-great use of the WINDOW button (as previously seen on the mpc4k), so you don't have to go crazy remembering the position of many pages...you know that you just find the parameter (Example: Sequence) you want to go deep into and hit window on it.
-in general all you can do from the main window itself. it contains a sh*tload of informations but still looks tight and not confusing.

All 16+ bit samplers for the most part sound identical. For the most part, and we don't need to go into unicorn cases etc, and all MPCs after the 60 sound nearly identical. Some sound "dirty" because it is cheap, like how the 500 got cheaped out on and has noise. I haven't used the newest units but I wouldn't terribly surprised if some people got slightly worse units introducing more noise, but I don't think this is the character people are talking about in this thread.

I hate Disc too, to be honest just how the net works I've mostly just become a lurker :) I don't even idle in IRCs anymore, I boomerized.

It happens. I've had to move around a couple times to find places that fit. Nothing lasts forever. The modern internet is a hellscape of filth its hard to find it interesting these days.

sorry but this is not true. you cannot resolve a complex machine like a sampler down to its converters or its tech specs (bit depth \ sampling rate). its more complex than this just in the digital domain, plus you have to take into account the analog part of the signal path, with its opamps and sh1t. and not only which component has been used, but how they have been put together, how the signal path has been engineered. it's not magic dust or unicorns, it's just different designs, different components, overall slightly different technology and design.
it's simply not true that all 16bit samplers sound the same.
