Has anyone here been able to use multichannel USB audio with 3.4 beta 3?
Doesn't work at all for me with tascam model-12. (Worked fine in 2.x). Will log a report...

Also - Am I the only one missing the programs? It seems like they're basically saying "we'll make it easier to use MPC on it's own, but we're cutting you off if you use it as part of a larger rig"

I am working on live performances and can't stop mid-performance to load a new project. I thought maybe the sequences would now let you set a different preset per instrument, which would at least mean you only need to spec 1 track per instrument needed (I tend to use the same instruments but with different settings), but I tried changing the presets in a different sequence and it just changes the presets for all of them. There's also no way to send program change to select different preset, the 'tracks' program change just changes which track # is selected in the interface.

3rd.. Is clip mode just gone forever?

Want to check I haven't missed something new before I lodge suggestions

Lots of discussion here about the changes with respect to programs, lots of clunky workarounds. You should definitely file a feedback report, the more voices the better and perhaps they'll come up with something. All related to disk streaming apparently, and ironically I haven't seen anyone even mention disk streaming now that it's finally here.

As for clips, who knows, I always thought the MPC implementation was awful so no loss there. Maybe one day we'll see Force style clips.

Ah, I see, so it's entirely your fault that Akai got rid of programs?

I did!

Hmm. Well each to their own. Clips on the mpc is basic, sure. But I have used it quite a lot in a live setting to launch loops and one shots: a sort of quantised improvisation. I think it is a loss if it is not resurrected - preferably with midi clips as well.
If they don't bring back clips then I think that the moniker 'MPC Live' becomes ever more redundant.
I have forwarded my opinion and request about this to Akai but we shall see. Presently I am sticking with 2.15.

MPC-Tutor wrote:Clips as a separate program type always seemed unnecessary, I could never understand why they didn’t just integrate launch quantisation and toggling into drum programs

I am absolutely with you 100%. I said this myself when I contacted Akai about MPC 3.0.
Drum programs simply launch a clip/sample immediately. Would it be difficult to have the option of launching the drum /clip/pad in a quantised manner as in the clips program? Dunno. It depends, I presume, on the programming architecture. Not my area of expertise.
But it would be nice. :-D

Not sure if I'm experiencing a bug or it is a different issue. Using MPC One+

I've setup a template with several midi assignments, including q links setup on my midi track controlling several parameters on my hardware synth (ASM Hydrasynth).
When I have this midi channel active, or try to play from my synth on this channel, it seems like my latency is going crazy and the software locks up.

Playing from my synth on a separate midi channel without the q link template setup has no issues and I've tried a couple of different scenarios to try to rule out ram. I'm also quite confident in my midi assignments, as I followed the manual of my synth and I also tested each control as I set them up. Only been using MPC a few months so I'm not sure if there's something I'm doing wrong

Yep, feedback lodged! Essentially it will mean selling my MPC if there is no simple way to change presets on all tracks from a single message (or could be a message per midi channel, that's no big deal). It's not just that it interferes with my workflow for live sets, I would keep it just to use for standalone fooling around, but I'd need something else to use,and both money and desk space are in short supply for me.

The clips I agree, it was a horrible implementation... I'd be perfectly happy if there were just options to create all the clip-like actions on the regular drum pads, but whatever form it takes - it was handy to be able to load up a bunch of loops and just easily trigger.

Hi, thank you for posting this. I have just bought and MPC key 37 planning to connect it with a Tascam Model 12 for live performance. So I guess I should avoid the upgrade for now?

You can use the MPC's MIDI In/Out Monitor to check if any unnecessary data is being transmitted. Sometimes unexpected MIDI messages can cause latency or software issues, so it’s worth taking a look.

Not sure if this a Bug or not...Or whether or not it was mentioned. I tried to search it. But...Lately I've noticed that When Stem a Sample out, Add it to a Program, Process it, etc....When It comes time to Save my Project, I get a "Cannot Save XPJ to Location". I'm unable to save to ANY Location. Happened a couple of Times. My 1st occurrence, I had abandon the whole Beat. 2nd Time...I was able to save most of my Drum Programs separately. Finally I bounced my main Track to an Audio File. Then I noticed, It's only happening with my Stem Files.
My only workaround is to Stem a File, Process it, then Bounce It To an Audio File...THEN Delete anything Associated with the Original Stem. Only then Am I able to save Projects as Normal.

Let me know if I'm the only one experiencing this!

sparky wrote:The beta is relentlessly buggy with imported projects from 2.XX, too many times to mention now I’ve loaded up projects which I have imported, tweaked until they’re playing properly, and saved as 3.X projects, only to find that on reloading the import versions, samples which had been in the project are missing, tracks are empty or the whole sequence doesn’t play. It’s happened repeatedly with several projects. Sometimes reloading again sorts it out, sometimes not. And occasionally when I check the import project folder for the offending project… it’s blank. Then I have to start all over again importing and assigning samples. I know people will say ‘just go back to 2.XX’… I don’t want to be stuck on an obsolete OS with no further support/development expected, so I’ve really worked at getting on with 3.X but the compromises of the new system plus the constant glitches in it are really making it a stretch. Some flashy new toys on the top layer but a lot of damaged toys underneath, (the main page, the mixers, the weird and unintuitive track/program collision) and the whole toybox itself is looking fairly fragile at this point.

yes, that's exactly what I am experiencing after upgrading to MpC3.
All my projects, made with 2.xx in years, are completely broken, some tracks are missing and just don't play anymore, the qlink assignments I made to play them live are lost, everything is messed up.
My gosh.
I have been waiting YEARS for a linear arrangement on Mpc and now we have it but what shall I do, do I have to lose or break all projects I made since 4 years?
A bit tricky, isn't it?
Maybe they should give us a chance to choose which OS to use with every project, so we could switch between 2.xx and 3 easily?
Does it make sense?
By Straker Mon Dec 23, 2024 11:35 pm
The sequences settings of 2.xx projects get lost when imported to 3beta.
If you have let's say 3 identical sequences each with different pad/track mutes, once you import them on 3beta, they sound exactly the same.
So I think that the track/pad mutes get lost.
Some drum tracks are not loaded at all.
The qlink assignments are also lost.
I think that 3beta works in another way and this means you are losing hours of assignments and settings if you switch to 3beta.
Do you think it will stay like this or maybe they fix this import feature to have a 100% compatibility?
