Actually, in another forum I saw that they were aiming at removing scales altogether. We simply just set a single frequency for the project and bam, done. Makes for a very simple way to compose. Fast music for the future generation.

Beta 4:33 (dedicated to John Cage) could take this approach even further…

This time signature thing is interesting because I accidentally wrote/recorded a song in 3/4 (still on 2.5 for now) and I'm seeing so many folks, way more than you'd expect, writing songs in nonstandard time signatures on the MPC. Eye opening.

what is the benefits of non standard time signatures?

Really odd question, it's not a case of benefits, that's like asking 'what's the benefit of using a minor key over major key'. It is what it is, music is written in a variety of time signatures to give a different feel, just like you can perform in a different tempo, different keys, different swings etc.

You'll just need to spend some time on google educating yourself about time signatures. You'll soon realise the idea of a professional music sequencer not actually supporting them and enforcing all music to be in 4/4 as utterly bonkers.

Certain rhythms/grooves are just that way. I think a lot of people (myself included at times) think of progressive / complex music as the only music requiring them but it turns out plenty of great music all over the spectrum incorporates them in some way.

Correct me if I'm wrong somebody but I'd assume that the linear, timeline based approach to music making should theoretically be allowing more flexibility in this regard, not less. Probably makes this even more weird.

fun fact - by default your mpc are running 4/2
in this beta the arrangement tempo is a function of time signature denominator, if you set it to 4/4 you essentially double the tempo of arrangement without doubling the bpm values

EDIT:
speaking of "esoteric" time signatures, by the look of things if you write in 3/4, you need to set it to either 1.5/4 or 3/8, going further you may as well write in 7/16 or 3.5/8 or 1.75/4

One benefit is that all music doesn't sound the same. Another is waltz. Yet another, Personal Jesus, DM.

Many benefits.

First of all, what’s ”non standard” time signatures? Secondly, did any musician ever ask ”what is the benefits” regarding musical necessities? How else would you do the following?

Glad to see I'm not alone in being worried about the missing time signatures in the beta.
Just so the 4/4 wh*res can rest easy  , this is the link for feedback on the beta. Please let them know about features currently missing that you would like to see back. (and maybe say something positive too) It's a lot more useful than just commiserating with other end users and upsetting the true believers™.

Had a weird bug today where I wasn’t able to save a project I was working on — anyone run into anything like this?
