That is exactly my point.

Seems like people just love to compare stuff while not fully or at all understanding the galaxian gap between items, products, gear. Yes, GALAXIAN.

Reminds me of when people say shit like ....

“Ooh this (insert various food) is better than sex.”

No the **** it aint, who’s telling you these lies, lol.

It really depends on what he’s looking for. If he’s looking for a workstation to create full compositions then of course the new MPCs would be the obvious choice.

If he’s just looking for a drum machine/sampler/midi sequencer the 3k and 2kxl excels at that with good percussion harmonics.

If he’s looking for realistic detailed sounding multisamples sampled at different velocities what’s better than the 4K?

If he’s a finger drummer what’s better than the 2500/JJOSXL?

It all depends on what hes looking for.

There is no best, there is only what's best for you.
You need to decide that.

BradyStillman wrote:-If the sampling on the 2000xl is good or average

It's a sampler. What is this good or average?
BradyStillman wrote:-Cuz I plug in a midi keybord to the 2000xl? It’s usb.

MPC 2k/2kxl, no usb ports, you'd know this already if you looked at pics.
Use USB to MIDI adapter, search internet, you will find many along with reviews.

BradyStillman wrote:-Lastly I don’t have constant access to a computer but I could use I could if it was just to get samples and stuff, just not for like a whole beat session.

2kxl doesn't need computer. LIVE doesn't either as it's said to be standalone.

I have to humbly disagree here's why.

The Live or X can do compositions and you can see them on the screen and touch the screen, and you can set up what you want in song mode. The X is definitely a beast on it's own. The pads are fat and thick on both machines, he can finger all day long. It samples, you can use the X or live as drum machine, sequencer and midi, plus you can have a hard drive to it internally, and it has two usb slots for adding more hard drives, you can't do that with the 2500, 4000, 2000xl, I had a 2000xl love it, again it's old technology. It order for him to add hard drives, he has to bring in SCSI and that is crazy in 2017! I almost got a used 2000xl, but when I thought about all that stuff I would have to get, I said no. All these machines have good harmonics if you wanna go there. MPC live and X are clean you get out what you put in, the harmonics thingy is a gimmick.
He wouldn't go wrong if he got the X or Live, If he wants to go backwards ok, these are the future machines, they can go standalone or computer with it's own software, and its very nice. He will get 10 gigs of content, and the Air Instruments and effects free, you won't get that with the legacy MPC's. They are Legacy for a reason.

He can export his stems out out on a usb thumb stick or SD card and take it and go to a major studio and drag and drop them in any DAW. Once he gets to know these new machines, like I have it will be a breeze. These new Machines are beast!

If he wants to stay standalone he can, if he wants the controller part he can, if he wants to rock both he can! LOL Final decision is up to him though.
Peace

Even though there is nearly years between them the 2000XL is still capable of features that the LIVE hasn't got yet, or may not even ever got. If you intend to use your MPC as a MIDI sequencer I would definitely stick with the 2000XL, if you're not too bothered about that side of things then you won't go wrong with the LIVE. I use my MPC As the centrepiece to my live band set up and wanted to upgrade to the LIVE but in terms of sequencing MIDI, its simply not as powerful as the 2000XL so I've stayed with my older machine. Hopefully AKAI will address this in the future.

I'm an ex 2KXL / 2500 w/JJOS / 4K user, and I would still advise the OP to go for the Live. It has the best screen, most sensitive pads and the Q-Links are more useable than the others IMO. It also takes all of 5 minutes to install a huge SSD if you have a big sample library, and navigating and auditioning those samples in the browser while the track plays can't be done on earlier MPCs. The sound is also really nice.

For a 'work in progress' it's shaping up to be one of the best MPCs. 8)

The 4000 USB slot can be used for a hard drive and the 2000xl have SD drives that can be added....

Hence the op is talking about the Live And 2000XL how did we get to 2500 jjos, 4000 and 1000 etc?

4000? If thats the case l woyld go for the X! I don't think the op looking at a 4000 so l won't go into it.

Talk about the 2000XL. It is not doper than the Live. Modify the 2000XL? Like why? When the Live comes with that already. He can get a live probably for $959 just like me. Brand new. I almost got an 2000XL cause l didnt know Akai was comin with these new ones. I saw the specs and pumped the breaks real dam fast and l am very happy.

I wanna hear frop the op

Help me understand. How is the midi sequencer on the Live weaker than the 2000XL. ?

The op is not just looking at that function.

No, hence this is just not true! The 4000 can use a hard drive in the USB slot and you don't need a SCSI in 2017 for the 2000,Xl and 3000 they all can have card readers installed....
Now would I do that no but one should give out honest info if your going to offer it.....

You’re lucky if you can find a used 4K with a working front USB slot, plus it maxes out to USB 1.1 speed which is super slow.

I found the CF reader in my 2KXL to be fine for saving and loading projects, but clunky for browsing samples.

Everyone has got different priorities, but I need quick browsing and loading of sounds because I tend to max the ram with keygroups. The Live is decent for that.

Yo you can not export stems to a SD out of the 2000XL. You can save pgm not a full loop. You can save wav files. I can not bonce stems out of the 2000XL , 3000, nor 2500. So what is that SD card good for when you got the Live that's a midi sequencer , DAW and computer in one. People mostly wanna deal with stem. I already know you can modify the 2000XL bit never to the point as the Live. but tell me how lma get stems outta the 2000XL , 3000 or 4000 Smack.

Exactly. Live is 3.0 and backward compatible with 2.0. Who is using 1.1 usb? I would never buy into those old machines . new machines are out and lm giving out wrong info?

They are called legacy for a reason.
I dont know what dudes definition of old
Technology is but they need to come up to speed.

I am doing things in the live l wish the 2000XL had. A SD reader means nothing if you can't export stems to it. 2000XL you gotta buy tbe 8 0uts which is optional. I got outs that come with my live. Lets talk effects. Another thing he would have to buy optional. Unless he bought a 2000XL with them AND THEY ARE PURE TEE GARBAGE! Not touching the live's internal effects which are on point. If you don't have a Live to experience these things what is dude talking about?

Portability the live got all of them beat. Which legacy machine works on battery ? None of them. The op would enjoy that. Is that the wrong info?
