It almost reminds me of the paint Waldorf used for the original runs of the Microwave XT heh. My Microwave is covered in this weird orange rubbery textured Nextel paint that is a **** to keep clean. The synth is already obnoxious bright orange and that rubber shit collects dust and dirt like a magnet just like the MPC's coating. Wipe it wrong with a rag and you can get it to start peeling off, Ive got a couple red spots on mine now showing the metal chassis underneath heh.

No sir, it's like the day l bought it. Mint condition. Now that l see the pics its not actually cracks its more of rubbing looking. I couldn't see the pics last night.

I don't rest my hands on the MPC when l use it. My Acer laptop cause l use it so much the paint rubbed off. MPC 2000XL l had it since 2001 to 2012 and the paint around the rim started coming off.

If he had actual cracks that would of been due to dropping it or weather. It looks rubbed.

Is your MPC LIVE experiencing this? I have other gear with similar coating but it never chiped. But I control the temp, humidity and keep things out of direct sunlight.

I wonder what their coating process is? Perhaps, it didn't cure to the metal. The OP said he had it only four months. Did he buy is used? If so, by September it's going to look like a MPC wrapped in Aluminum foil.

I hate that rubberized coating crap!
Manufacturers should really stop using it.. I have a kaossilator mini that went all sticky and gross, I had to bathe the casing in rubbing alcohol to remove the sticky rubber goop. The temp in my house in the summer is usually around 80f.. I think that accelerates the process.
If I could choose an ideal material for future MPCs to be made of, it would be the zinc casing korg used on the electribe 2.
I love the way that stuff feels.
The moment I notice some rubberized failure starting to happen on my Live.. I'm planning to get a skin and new knobs from mpcstuff.com

I don't know what it's called, I've seen it on game controllers, USB hubs, midi controllers, some knobs here and there, novation circuit is coated in it, tr8s knobs have it.. All I know is given enough time and exposure to heat it will liquify into glue. And the only way to remove it is to scrub it off with alcohol. Luckily my MPC is ok after one year.. but I'm anticipating it will happen sooner or later.

What was wrong with your 1k? I've still got mine, been in backpacks, torn it apart to upgrade/fix stuff... I always thought it was quite serviceable and besides the pads needing an upgrade, was really a pretty decent system hardware wise. Maybe I just got lucky though.

The live's matte finish (imo) is nice. It looks/feels nice, attracts a bit of dust, the worst part may be when it wears...
But hey, we can always buy the $50 sticker mpcstuff to cover it up

$50... Gtfoh mpcstuff!!!

Id like a nice metal chassis... Aluminum would do but raw stainless steel would be the sh!t
...very heavy though

Also curious. I still have both 1000 & 2500 (not right now tho) and although I had been using mainly 2500 as I liked having more physical controls the built quality was subpar IMO. I even ordered the new PCB board from mpcstuff because volume pot started giving me cracks (known issue) and clicky jog wheel was loud and annoying. Tbh honest I plan to sell it as soon as I can and will probably keep the 1000.

Last week I got tired of this rubber peeling on my mpc touch and I decided to rub it all off and now my MPC looks like this.Image
I'm on the second layer of fluorescent orange and then the coating.

What did you use to rub it off and how long did the process take to remove it? It must've had some serious peeling.
