The forum these days is very split between novices, hobbyists and professionals. That's the issue. But that's more of a function of Akai than anything else. Akai has lowered the overall cost of entry (skill cost, experience cost and financial cost) so much that they've attracted a broad spectrum of users. Unlike UAD for example, their cost of entry is higher, so very rarely do you run into a novice that has invested in their software.

But Akai is reaping benefits, because there's no way UAD could release buggy software and be able to ignore it, then release a shiny new object 6 months later and have users say it's awesome and it's almost perfect now. Including Akai there are maybe a couple other vendors that can get away with that. Heck look at most of these threads lately - they seem to be dominated by people with little-to-no experience making music. But that's Akai's model now - pursue users with little-to-no experience, make the cost of entry low, and convince them that they can produce music because they can connect to splice and push buttons.

Unfortunately low-value topics usually results in low-value threads filled with sarcasm, straying responses, etc. But if Akai continues to lower the cost of entry, this will be the norm here. It's why I say... this forum needs a sub-forum for the professional users, where threads have higher value and are much less likely to derail.

And IMO comparing guitars is difficult because with a guitar the overall cost of entry is much higher to create and record something of value.

Also... I feel you on the confusion of this forum between new users, hobbyists, and professionals. There aren't *so* many places to go if you need help.
* get satisfaction... it's gone... and never went there myself... but cannot point anybody there
* reddit r/mpcusers is okay... but definitely skews towards new users and hobbyists
* gearsluts and muffwiggler both have decent forums, but they are so generic or so specific as to often be a wash

* mpc-forums... well we're here, and while I like the site, we are kind of a pretentious bunch from time to time. Plus the site has a great name... mpc-forums... it sounds official...

For me, the outcome I'd like to see is getting some more fresh blood over here, and we're sort of getting it. I'm all for helping the folks who're willing to help themself, try out stuff, and post back. Had enough of the "my MPC is broken cuz it doesn't sound like Dilla", but that's probably the type of post where I'm more likely to take the thread off the rails

Haha - man I didn't mean it like that though - wasn't trying to push any heat. Just saying... gotta invest more time and energy in learning to play an instrument than pressing buttons. Heck sometimes I'm totally guilty of being lazy and just programming some live drums instead of sitting down in front of my drum kit, setting mic levels, recording, overdubbing, etc, etc, etc.

You need to learn 3 chords on the guitar to make a dope punk album.

Yup and if they're just going to press buttons. They need to do it more that just on the weekends for 30 minutes. Stop watching tv, stop playing video games, stop social media, stop watching youtube gear reviews, and start putting the time in.

I even tried deleting the tracks using the the drum synth plugins and it still won't save.

c'mon, we all know every thread here eventually leads to..... RTFM!

Sure, but until Bees drops by it ain't an official RTFM

And if it's not in the manual, it's a bug or a request. Is it just that easy? Maybe it always was. Who knows?

If your a member of mpc gangs on FB you can see what the new influx of users is bringing to the table. 5 minute beats with sloppy chops and basic question on how to use note repeat. While good for akai since they seem to be buying all those packs without even wondering if they can do it themselves, I was baffled at the amount of people buying gear on a payment plan but that seems to be a us thing mostly.
