Imagine if it came with all the current Akai expansions plus all the plug ins in the software ported to the mpc keys.. that could hang with about anything I think.

In the current line even the SATA goes over USB, goes thats the reason we dont see Streaming from harddisk.

I would think it would be at least ten years.. these current ones are not that old and they still feel new to me, I think they will just keep filling in the holes.. probably make something nobody is expecting.

Also, I think a smaller MPC will raise its head one day, especially after that leak of the new Roland SP with the 20 pads that disappeared so sudden...
New SP leak? When was this?

I mean, Air synths are quite good but not at the level to build a workstation around them.
At least, I never thought Mpc could be considered a workstation like a Fantom or Kronos and so on.
I think the ASR-10 and EPS-16 would like to have a few words with you on this subject..

There isn't any way to revamp the X unless they replace the entire system inside. Its got the max outputs, CV/Gates, more MIDI I/O and audio inputs, etc, the only upgrades for it would be a faster CPU or more RAM.
The Live 2 was a revamp, but just added features from the One/X to it to make it the perfect middle man of the lineup. All of the support for the new add-ons it got were already there from day 1, it just needed the hardware modules installed (ever notice how your One and Live show you a total of 8 outputs available even though you dont have them?). The One brought nothing new to the table, it's just a trimmed down cost effective version of the bigger units.
If they make a new X, that means there is a new board inside and would require them to either stop supporting the old lineup, or keep two dev teams going, one for the new branch, and one for the older units. Somehow I dont think Akai will be stretching themselves that thin considering how much work the current line up is by itself.

One was unexpected and also Live2.
I think this new Mpc is a work in progress, maybe even Akai doesn't know where it will lead.
They started with a very basic and buggy X/Live and now we already had new hw (One Live2 studio2) and the OS is really evolving fast to the point that 2.10 is almost another instrument compared to Mpc in 2017.
So we really don't know what Akai is cooking and what will happen.
And I repeat X is the only Mpc which is the same as 2017, so they will revamp it in a way or the other.
And I am quite sure it's the one that sold less, too big, too expensive and clearly the trend of market is for grooveboxes that cost less then 1k.

True we don't know, but in regards to the One and the Live 2, unexpected or not, there is NOTHING new in either of those units. All three/four models have the EXACT same hardware inside. Its a modular system they've just added/removed different option cards inside. The only thing 'new' about the One and the Live 2 is they needed to make a new enclosure for the units. The X already has the Rockchip SOC inside maxed out for the most part. In order to do anything new to the X, they will need to replace the guts to the entire machine which would then leave them running to develop a separate branch of the MPC firmware to work on this, and if that is the case, they would be scrambling to update the rest of the lineup. Considering a couple of those models are maybe a year (or less) old, I don't think they're planning on that anytime soon.
kja wrote:Your keep saying x is the only one that hasn't been redone.. but that is true but also live is the only one that has been redone.. and none of these are a new line, they are all the same thing with different hardware..

Straker wrote:Well, the fact that 3.0 didn't come yet, makes me think that Akai is saving it for some new product.
Also the fact that Akai bought the 4gb soc together with 2gb soc but just used the 2gb one until now, makes me think that sooner or later they will use 4gb soc.
And X definitely need a revamp anyway, it is too expensive and big, the market is shrinking and people don't have money to pay so much for a unit which is the same as One or Live with a different hardware.
So I am quite sure something will happen soon.
