Ableton Push 3: New Standalone Player In The Game....

This is more of an Akai Force competitor.

This will sperate the real mpc heads from those that just jumped on the mpc as the latest greatest beat machine.. a lot of us will want the newest coolest, some of us truly love the mpc and will go nowhere.. I've never been remotely interested in live, I have used mpc's since I was a little one and an going nowhere. I could care less, but it looks really cool.
I wonder if it sounds good for skisky, no disrespect.. just a jab, love the guy he is a beast.

yes, i think this is true.
it will differentiate, who wants a classic MPC experience (and maybe will push AKAI to think more to its loyal fanbase) from who wants a good daw-like standalone instrument.
i think there is space in the market for both approaches, personally i prefer the old mpc workflow and don't need an arranger in the mpc, so much that i'm thinking to switch back to a 2.5k with jj and maybe get a push3 in the future for that kind of instrument (mpe, maxforlive for endless instrument building\sound design etc...), but im a bit afraid to loose good stuff like autosampling and the great improved mixer and routing system of current line of mpc's

anyway, i think this move from Ableton will do good to the game in general, pushing all players to do better.

I think many will be FORCE'd to PUSH 3

There is a British Youtuber that loves these and does a full teardown. Cant wait to see. Its probably just a beautiful inside as out.

All Metal? Standalone? I was gonna say its weird they didn't make a touch screen but Now I think its way more efficient. not to have it. One of my peeves about My Newly acquired XOG is That I still have to use the touch screen like 30-40% of the time.

Now Just think if they strike a deal with Apple down the line or some hacker/Modder figures out how to put a Apple M1/M2 chip in it.

I think its great for all us consumers in the music hardware space.

And the battery has to be a response to the success of the Live and Live 2

I dont need it but its damn cool.

More than competing with the Force I think this is more of a consolidation of Ableton as it's own expandible ecosystem. Obviously there is a comparison/competition crossover but I don't feel like it's a direct hit. Nor it intends to be.

Hopefully the M4L and modular capabilities end up changing how the competitors think about their products.

And I hope Akai bets on building a stronger relationship between hardware and software. Improving the MPC Software into something more complex would be great.

Anyway, maybe I'll consider getting the controller version to get some use out of my Ableton license. I think it's super cool and probably a great all around device to have.

EDIT: And I hope that Serato follows with a Studio controller.

I just want to see it push Akai into a more modern mindset in terms of the hardware, things like the XY pads, MPE, ADAT, upgradable processor/ RAM etc. All great ideas which should be in the MPC/Force as well.

Improving the MPC Software into something more complex would be great.

The MPC Software is literally decades behind any of the established DAWs, I just can't see it ever being more than just a niche utility app that MPC users have to grit their teeth with. I do use it as ultimately it's quicker to develop expansions in the software compared to standalone, but really, it's so ill-thought out and missing the most obvious features. So infuriating.

The hardware power expandability is just WOW not gonna lie. But at the end of the day workflow familiarity is taking the cake for me so I guess if I had to buy a live performance instrument I think i would have gone with Force.

The built-in ADAT support is incredible - I honestly did *NOT* see that coming from Ableton. Also...




Holy crap.... the CPU on Push 3 standalone is faster than my current desktop in single-thread performance - LMAO!!!! That battery life though.... OOF....

Force has better hardware design for playing live , but it lacks on time-stretching algorithms ....

I seriously didn't catch that Push 3 standalone only has an "up to" 2.5 hour battery life. That makes it practically useless other than an UPS for my needs. Aside from MPE support, I'd rather just grab a cheaper Push 2 since it would be wired in my studio anyway.

Also, it's $2339 USD for standalone with bog regular Live 11. If you want Suite, then you're up to +$2500 USD. For up to 2.5 hours of battery life. I get that it comes with Live Intro, but that's capped at 16 tracks. Period. And you *HAVE* to own a version of Live in order for Push 3 standalone to work, otherwise you're stuck with that 16 track cap and Intro.

Already got Live 11 Suite... decided to pull the trigger... will be interesting to see how easily we can upgrade the SSD drive. From pics it looks like a standard m2, so barring the "you void your warranty" I doubt that there's much if anything special about it.

Enjoy that "up to" 2.5 hours of runtime when you're out and about. For me, that's a hard pass... I'll give Ableton points for making the battery user-replaceable, though. Live/Live II is a nightmare when it comes to battery replacement.

Not too worried about battery life (for now)... I used to travel a lot, but now beyond just going to visit family or something I'm mostly at home our hanging out in the yard. If there is space inside for more batteries (and from pics it looks like there may be)... it's possible to see more battery time out of it... obviously at the cost of more weight.

We'll see though.

Is there a reason why you didn't just go with bog-standard Push 3 instead since you don't really need the battery? Could have saved $1000 USD yet kept the full power of your computer.

I gotta say the way they made it up-gradable is just awesome.
I'm not into controllers with that many pads usually but the fact its now standalone is nice.
If they add the arrange mode, then I may have to purchase but as of now I will wait to see what they add.
