but has that not always been the case? previously they had the mpc5000, the mpc2500, the 1000 and the 500 all out the same time.

so that always been the modus operandi to get units into the hands of different consumer levels

could be a mini live but instead of the speaker they put the 37mini keys; I guess that would give it an edge of the sp404 as they could market it as not needing an external keyboard

:worthy: ^^ THIS ^^ :worthy:

Yes, it has always been their modus operandi!

To no one in general (just thinking out loud, really): if this is truly the "MPC mini" think about what's being implied here and weigh it against the reality of Akai's latest track record. It likely *will not* have a screen, completely negating the entire purpose of it being mini in the first place. I understand this is all assumption for now. However, knowing how businesses business, I can see one of two things happening here. Either Akai would A) require this new "MPC mini" to tether/cast to a separate device for screen output (not so mini anymore/wouldn't trust implementation in any capacity) or B) they would have to roll out a new firmware to accommodate this lack of screen/smaller screen size. Think MPC 500. Yikes. Again all assumption. Just like everything else you're currently reading. That label size tells me "no screen", but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Another thing to consider: take a look at what other products/parts Akai *currently* has. Cobble together an "MPC mini" with that. You can then approximate how this thing will look and what it will do. The goal here is to maximize profitability with what's already made while marketing the ever living f*ck out of this new product to tell the user "hey, we're generating VALUE for YOU." However, as we've seen with almost all of their product claims, there's an element of half-truths and a heavy dose of caveat emptor. Case in point: there shouldn't be 32 whole ass pages of people trying to figure out how or why certain USB audio interfaces work/don't work when Akai sold it as just working (despite being told in beta it, in fact, did not just work).

Point being, it fun to speculate. It's also fun to not believe the hype. Also, screw Youtubers. :fku:

The FCC docs clearly show that the test MPC is running the official 2.12.2 release of the MPC firmware, so it seems very unlikely that this will be much more than a scaled down MPC Key 61 (IMO). And once again with this MPC Live Mini thing, that was claimed to not be running the normal MPC software/firmware, so again, even if what he spoke of was a real 'thing', it does not appear to be this 'thing'.

Fair point. Not totally sold on this "mini" business I keep hearing, but I guess time will tell!

:

could abe a smaller screen more along the lines of sp404 ; could be a stripped down software version; so less complex controls needed

To say "always" is stretching it because Akai didn't start with the MPCs you mentioned. They started with only big boxes like 60, 60mk2, 3k, 2k, 2kXL, 4k, then the little 1k in 2003 about 15 years later.

A) that would require Akai to completely rewrite most of their code for a limited single use
B) that wouldn't be an efficient use of resources
C) this would go against everything they said about maintaining a consistent experience across their product line

...

But this is Akai we're talking about, so you're probably 100% correct on that.

It's possible. However, think about this UI on a 5" screen. It's already bad enough that it's a desktop grid on the size it is now.

When the 60/3000/2000/2000XL were on the market, there was only ONE MPC at a time. Even the rackmount samplers only had 1 or 2 (maybe 3) different models available at a time. They all replaced one another, in constant progress to get better. It wasnt until Akai 2.0 released the 4K that they also had the 1K out at the same time. InMusic are the ones that felt the need to put out the 500/2500/5000 at the same time..

MPC Software still supports 360 x 96 dot graphic LCD screens. I would like to see a current MPC with this screen.
