It's a strange design for sure. The button row would definitely make more sense at the bottom. For one the screen wouldn't be blocked by hands all the time. I assume the I/O panel would conflict with placing the speaker at the top though. Maybe that could have been solved by angling the chassis but I guess that would push the price even higher.

Not directed at anyone in particular...

There's no winning. If they put those buttons on the bottom, people would be bitching about how their wrists are triggering buttons/entering notes while using other things. Of course all of this means nothing if Akai can't iron out bugs, dead-ends, and (daily) activation issues. Furthermore, this physical layout sort of solidifies Akai's allergies to a tilt screen.

Also, does anyone actually use the + - buttons?

overal it's a big "meh..." and at this point I prefer to carry a laptop or a small nuk with bespoke control surface for a fraction of price.
Only thing I'm curious about is if the single pad will be multicoloured or all four of their corners will lit with the same colour? knowing akai they cheaped out on leds leaveaving 16 zones only

that next OS update must be quite the big deal. i expect no more bugs and a lot of features that were removed will be returned

you guys looking at the biggest software function update all day long and nobody mentioned it yet lol

The 16 step buttons can also be used as macro pads which means you'll be able to assign 16 track/pad mutes while still playing drums/samples pads. Hopefully this well the Force pad grid macros.

Nobody noticed the 24 audios channels in/out directly to daw by USB C ? Huge update imo. Hope it's work in standalone mode.

If it has 4 quadrants per pad does that mean it will basically have the clip functionality of a Force? I see there is a follow button at top. And I assuming the pads have multiple leds. Dismissing all the hate, this seems like it will be a very interesting device. i really really really love the thought of being able to assign macros to those step buttons for quick activations of effects or mutes.

Agreed, looks like a substantial upgrade in several ways
