For Australia, we are expecting the Live late May and the X late June - TBC.

Just seen over on GS the new Ozzie price at StoreDj.

At 2899 how does a retailer justify the mark up.

Obvious import taxes, GST, conversion etc etc.

Do the math.

Guess I'll be getting my X from Sweetwater as I do with all the rest of my gear.

Aussie dealers too greedy.

2899 aud = 2206.67 usd today. Sweetwater has theirs for 2199 usd = about a $7 markup

Seems pretty fair still. I always thought Austalian prices were quite a bit more, but this seems rather consistent with US

I guess you are right there man but I am one of first in line at Sweetwater and that means I'll have mine before some others down under.

If I tried to get in line now in Oz I will probably see mine in November.Lolz.

Based on $0.75 USD/AUD exchange rate, the Sweetwater purchase would be $2932 AUD.

+10% GST (Australian sales tax) upon importation: $3,225.
+shipping charges and bank fees (unknown. Typically Sweetwater will not ship Akai to Australia).
+no local warranty.

These units are all made in Asia, on Australia's doorstep. We ship Asia to Australia. You're looking at Asia>US>Australia. Sure, you may get it faster, depending on inMusic release dates, but you may not. You will definitely be paying more and you won't have any local warranty or support.

I'd encourage you to shop locally and get a pre-order in with one of our dealers. Your call.

I once tried to help out to ship a friend overseas because US was releasing this book he really wanted and his country wasn't getting it until 6 months later. So I ordered it off Amazon, everything was $46 on my end. He paid it with $20 extra, but when I got to the post office to mail it out, it came out to more than $78 due to the weight because he wanted 3 copies of this hardcover 200 page book. Of course, he paid it but he also got hit with VAT and custom fees. Never again I'll do that "favor".

The Australian import fees and tax, plus shipping may be accurate. Not going to bother getting detailed info on it. Don't care that much.

My bad, I tried to quote the discussion and the forum wouldn't let me have so many quotes - looks like I edited the wrong quote out.

Re: exchange rate.
0.76 is the wholesale exchange rate. Nobody really gets that. You prob wouldn't even get the 0.75 I quoted. Normally my bank gives me a few cents less than the wholesale rate and then charges me an international transaction fee on top of that, although all banks are different. Even if the exchange rate was 0.76, it doesn't change the fact that it's heaps cheaper to buy locally.

Re: warranty.
I am referring to local warranty. Your warranty lies within country of purchase. If you purchase ex-USA and reside in AUS, you would have to pay to have the unit shipped back to the US for warranty work (and possible pay for it to be shipped back to you). Sorry I wasn't more clear with that. There would be no local warranty with a direct import.

Yet to see any MPC live specific cases advertised, which is a shame as I imagine the touchscreen and the q-links would be susceptible to damage in a backpack etc. Are there any MPC Touch owners that have a case that would be suited for the Live?

There's the UDG Touch case, but as the Live is thicker I doubt it will fit (it's also slightly wider & deeper).

You'd hope though that Akai have made arrangements with someone to produce a case for the Live, I'd be surprised if there wasn't something eventually. It's billed as a portable MPC, so it will naturally need a case. I'd also like to see screen protectors.

The Live is bigger than the Touch it may not fit in the sam bag. Akai or some company may make a bag for Live. There are no cases made yet.

is this the longest thread in history of mpc forums? are these the most eagerly anticipated mpcs of all time?

perhaps due to the fact that we had no social media we did have sight of what was coming
