I see why akai reps don't like coming here, too much negative.

Nothing wrong with discussing how a product can be improved, there's also plenty of positive discussion here, but this has never been a blinkered fan boy forum. Any criticism reflects the passion people round here have about MPCs, all feedback is good feedback. They want them to be the best they can be so by highlighting the negatives we hope Akai will act.

Akai reps are here all the time, I can assure you of that, but most of them choose not to post, just lurk and report back.

Oh I get it. Trust me. I used to own a 5000. This is the first time in a long time I see them paying attention to a product so let's give them a chance. I want these features too but they already know about what we want because they read this forum like you said.

I see why akai reps don't like coming here, too much negative. Yes we know of the features missing but doesn't habe to be repeated every thread it's not gonna magically be fixed. So what akai made this update to cash in on new buyers its a business. They need to make sales. So the features they've added are not for you, wait for a fix or move on. I'm pretty sure they've heard it already. Bashing beta testers is uncalled for they don't get paid to do this, they do it to help out. They don't make decision of what features get added. They're not Akai.

I get your point but I don't agree..

I remember the Akai reps saying:

"Everything that you can do in the software can be done on the MPC touch screen"
(This was said at NAMM 2017 a few 1000 times)

Where are the automation lanes?? Why is this missing??

I didn't believe that for a second. It didn't add up so I knew that was a lie.

I remember that too, and it's a good selling point…it's just that it's not true.
Shame.

There's positive vibes too – it's also good to understand that forums often are "for" discussing shortcomings and bugs. When ppl are happy, they are quiet.
I do beta-testing for a major company, and its closed private forum, of course, mostly displays criticism and complaints…and it's those that drive the products forward.
In general I'd say on music forums you'll see way more criticism than "I love this product" posts.

I'm all for discussing shortcomings and bugs and telling the supplier what the product is missing. I know there's positivity in here. I'm an engineer and work on eletrconic warfare and radars so i know the pressure and the feeling of an unsatisfied customer especially when its the navy/army. Some bugs are hard to fix no matter how great planning you did ahead. When software meets hardware there's a lot of stuff that can occur and you can have the best hardware and software engineer on the planet and you will still have bugs.

I just watched a video of Akai explaining how wifi syncing the MPC to your splice account takes them 20 years into the future, however when it comes to using the browser to navigate through the samples on my actual local MPC drive, it can't handle anything other than filtering the current directory - there's no library index, no tagging, no file moving/copy/paste etc. Surely a priority would be to optimise local file browsing? How about working with Sononym or Algonaut and bring some awesome sample indexing technology in to the MPC?

Agreed!.. Sononym is a beast!! I've been using Loopcloud and Sononym for library duties, and its fun and quick for getting samples. Very huge workflow improvements for me.

Now, All I need is Akai to implement the other 1/2 of Q-link follow (like they implemented for the new plugins) to my Sample Edit, Program Edit, Mixer, etc... for the MPC Live/Touch and I am solid!

I would be keen to do some beta testing for sure, i am currently for a few bits of software/hardware and it can be done in a great way with support from the community and ends up being a much less buggy release and a lot less rants on forums cuz it comes out right the first time, yearly updates are also not really cutting it when there is so much to be fixed, if you look at the elektron digitakt release there have been so many updates and bug fixes in the year since its release and it is now a really solid peice of gear that i can rely on, anyway i think this thread highlights that there is a lot of little bug fixes and things that need to be added before we get another "promo update" to bring in more customers we need functional fixes and upgrades to the mpc, if the next update comes out with just splice sales integration count me out, i am an mpc user from way back and the product line has an important legacy to uphold, it almost disapeared there for awhile and im glad mpc brand is hanging in there in current music climate but while its moving fwd to fit the modern production styles it should never forget its prestigious heritage and work flow that was created by one of the greats and still holds up as one of the best

I think having on onboard synth is cool... but we need a tab for automation and the ability to draw it in ourselves on the touchscreen.

Would also be nice to improve some of the clunkyness... when you are in the piano roll screen for example... the precision has to be spot on or you have to zoom in to select a note and zoom back out to do what you are trying to do. I think maybe some hotkeys would be nice so you are not always going up to the top right to switch tools. to erase a mistakenly placed note it would be nice to hold the erase button and click it... instead of having to stop everything to switch to the eraser tool.

How about more things other than velocity in the drop up velocity pane as well... maybe panning, pitch, and all the other 16 levels features so if I want one single instance where I have a pad hit at a different pitch... i can still draw it in instead of having to record one note in real time using 16 levels and then copying that note around where i want it. For example, when chopping some breaks and you are making some complex layering of your chops that would not really be easy to do in real time... you try out chops with the sequencer rolling and you make changes as you go along. then you have to break that workflow to record one hit with 16 levels pitch just to go and add it in to see how it sounds.

Man, we are the beta testers.
that's the truth

Truth right here!

I quite like having the new plugins from this update but I agree I'd much rather have a more flexible sampler

3 LFOs, 3 envelopes (even ableton simpler has a pitch envelope), and a mod matrix to control it all - then maybe add some interesting offline sample editing options

Yes…I feel I've been one since I bought The Renaissance and started rocking with v1.0.
Anyone remember those days? And no offense to Akai, but now that was hell in the beginning :D

I will NEVER forget the Ren 1.0 nightmare!! Akai permanently scarred me with that release!!!
By Eyalc Mon Nov 26, 2018 12:50 am
I agree with these thoughts.

Although it's cool to have the plugins, I've got an arsenal of plugins that IMO sound way better. I'd rather see them sort through the function list of the 4000 and bring those capabilities to the platform, rather than implement more plugins. Well, get the basic features working first of course.

I for one can't hate on the Ren and the v1.0 software. If it wasn't for Ren, I wouldn't got a chance to try out the maschine mk1 and the v1.8 software. As the matter fact my Ren is still new in the box. Since v1.0 was release. No firmware updates or anything. Same as the MPC touch and the MPC X.

yeah i remember early days of the v1 software, definately wasnt pretty and can see why the 5000 took a dive, they should check what elektron and other fwd thinking companys are doing about updates etc, theres been over 10 updates for digitakt in the last year and a solid beta testing program. i had hoped akai would have fixed all the mpc basics before 2.0 but it hasnt progressed in ways im happy with really, still use it and hold hopes it will get there one day but this last update and splice news doesnt give me much faith, a good beta testing program saves the embarrasment of a buggy/broken release that people will remember forever!
