Is the battery in the MPC worth it?

The battery is one of the features that originally sold me on the Live, but I barely ever used it. Maybe its new owner will use it more.

well a week or two ago i brought the live down to a friend's house and sampled all the sounds from the TR-08 boutique that he bought. (the thing is tiny and also runs on batteries) .. not that i am a huge 808 guy, but i figured why the hell not... i did a few takes of each sound with parameters adjusted differently. Just quickly plugged in a patch cord, no need to crawl under the counter to the power plug.

I don't plan to play bongo samples in the park any time soon... the battery was never about that for me. But it is nice when you play a set for an hour or so to not need to connect to the shitty power of the bar you're in.

Nope, wanted the Live anyway. Use it standalone mainly, I would take it to work with me & make beats on my lunch. Being that it had a battery just meant I didn't need a charger or laptop with me, I could do it all on the Live. It was convenient for me if I was visiting friends to jam with. All I needed was headphones, if I wanted to jam on the bus. So the battery played a big part in my decision, but it wasn't the deciding factor.

Being able to auto sample instruments, is a nice bonus. How did the recordings come out?

Yeah same here, especially dealing with heavy bass music, I like being able to move around the room to hear the dead spots or those places where you can tell the balance is really off. I just got a nifty new pair of DT990s a month or so ago but those are for late night when the misses is sleeping and Ill get yelled at for being too loud hehe. They rock but I need to hear it in my face on the big boy speakers 99% of the time.

Having the six outputs means those channels are all going to various sends on my mixer too, I have a bunch of outboard gear I use religiously now since leaving the Mac behind. Shit sounds really weird even if I put all the outputs back to the main 1/2 because all my delays and reverbs and phasers and flangers are missing hah!

I like the dt990 even if they're open back. They sound good for general mixing. Not the best for enjoyable listening. Yeah, I understand that? I suppose the stereo field is smaller as well.What made you move away from the MAC?

Are you keeping notes of your mixer and effect settings or does your mixer have instant recall and does your outgear allow you to save user settings.

Reason was doing things more in the the future. This was the beginning of going software. It freed me from tracking out. I didn't want any other MPC. 4000 to clunky, 5000 was messed up, Ren was glitched etc.

Exporting stems l found was dope. The power of the computer was on the rise. I was on GS in 2016 and Pettycash told me a new MPC was coming with new tech.

The 4000 was just too much for many people. Especially if they came from 2000 or 2000XL. I knew people who bought it and returned it the same day. They were like, I have no idea how to use it.

You made the right move, there was no need to wait 3 years for the one.

I have a launch version of the Live. I wish I had the Live with the second gen battery. I only get 3.5 to 3.75 hours on battery even just sitting idle.

I remember someone pointing out that they changed the battery wording on the Live boxes and people reporting 5 to 6 hour uses.

If I have to do a long session I have a power bank with me just in case. I use to use my mpc 1000 in portable mode with it all the time.

If the X ever gets a price drop, I’ll get rid of the Live and just stick with the X.

3.5 hours sitting idle. How long when you're actually using it?

i get the whole idea of autosampling keyboards and what not... i just would never do that. I hate having 88 samples loaded when i plan to use 3 of them... i would probably resample the result and delete the keygroup.

I don't know how the tr-08 boutique samples turned out... that was the last time i had time to turn the damn thing on. But i can guess it will sound like an 808 sample pack. The only thing i even thought of wanting to try is running the cymbal through the (standalone mode) warp .. stretch it out even worse and run it through fx.

The standalone warp, actually works well to mangle sounds. After you apply it, run it through a filter to smooth out the harshness. I'm not joking. I hope they don't fix it.

i agree... it is probably my most used effect on the thing. One of my feature suggestions actually was to add more algorithms that you could select... for example the s1000 algorithm. They could even gimmick it up like they did with the vintage effects and we know they could get in the ballpark since things like akaizer exists. I also don't want them to change the warp without keeping the stock one.
