MPC 3 -- Let's GO!!

impressive...not how I imagined it but nontheless impressive
at first glance it kind of reminds me moving from an original OS to JJOS2xl - dense menu pages, multiple buttons everywhere etc. Hard to judge at such an early stage.

One thing I'm sure - I have to pull my internet cables off because I won't be able to mentally chew through amount of 3.0 shitposting from the "experts" for another week or two

So a basic question.. But does it load all the prior projects ok if I update? I don't want to lose my current projects I'm working on.. anybody tried it yet?

Looks like they want you to use Track Edit... but it doesn't seem to be *quite* the same.

Sounds like the same as with the Force. Track mute on e.g. a drum/keygroup/plugin track means muting the audio outputs of the track, and it's even post-fx so I can't even leave a reverb or delay tail to soften the abrupt mute except with audio send effects. If I want a musically useful mute, I have to use a separate MIDI track sending to the sound-generating drum/keygroup/plugin track. So is the same thing coming to MPC now. Use two tracks per track.

Are the MIDI bugs still present? When MIDI is imported, does it still create a new sequence?

well, that's exactly my thought. i'm loving all that i'm seeing of this new version BUT... man if programs have been dropped my entire liveset workflow has to be rethought! i was relying heavily on multiple tracks addressing single programs! it was one of the things i always LOVED about all mpc's i've had , since 2kxl!
well, i'll have to weight that against all the new goodness!

Some may not like the lack of the program pool. I didn't at first when I got the Force, but now I love it. There's no way to mistakenly use the wrong program on a track.

You like to have each sample from a drum kit on its own track you can say create 7 or so MIDI tracks & send their MIDI data to a Drum Track that has all the samples & each note being triggered from the MIDI tracks. Or you can create multiple drum tracks with just one sample, but put different versions of that sample across the pads like a super 16 levels program kinda of thing.

You can still load a full kit to a track. Work on that as required and then explode to separate tracks. I think the program paradigm needed a change.

I'm coming from an MPC 4k atm, and programs, multis, etc all make complete sense. But when I had a modern MPCs, I really disliked how tracks are now linked per sequence, it's a really bad workflow. Heck even in my MPC 4k I'm spending so much time renaming tracks across sequences. The new workflow sounds much better, and I guess losing programs is a compromise.

I think Akai have really delivered. Will defo consider the MPC X one day, not sure I can part with my 4k as it's such a beaut to work with. But I can see really great progress having switched from the modern MPCs a few times.

Can certainly say that the MPC OS3 looks a lot more fluid to use standalone than a Push 3, which I absolutely hated in the end.

lol, I found out today. TBF I got a cryptic email from akai a few weeks ago which I now realise must have been about this, but I had a very sick dog to deal with on that day and they never got back to me.

But yes, a lot of work ahead for me and already I’m getting people expecting mpc bible 3 to somehow be a free update. it will not be free…

I’ve always said that I was happy to put out free minor updates (22 to date) but any major update or upgrade would definitely not be free. Mpc Bible 3 is going to be a huge rewrite, I think many of the existing tutorials will have to be completely replaced and of course plenty of entirely new content. I was already working on a new course structure anyway as I wanted to reflect the new modern workflows that have developed since the original course was written

I’m literally on a family holiday atm so have been given permission to take a couple of hours to get my thoughts together and watch the overview vids. But I’ll get cracking on this next week

Which YouTuber posted the change of clip mode?

That sucks , would it have killed them to just add follow actions and stuff... unless they are making a Force 2. I still use clip mode to turn tracks into performance style remixes and export it to Ableton and use it with a push.

With disk streaming, does this mean there is no 5 minute limit for recording into an audio track? Likewise, is the limit still 8 audio tracks?
