Pete Rock wouldn't like people being able to sample his records or being to stem samples in general. That's interesting.
All the great producers are mainly know, not just for their skills. The high price barrier of equipment back in the day played a major role in who was able to even get into making beats. So whoever got those devices were serious about it & wanted to the best technology of the day.
Y'all naive AF if you think they wouldn't had used stems if it were available back in the day. Let's not falsely glorify the greats as being too good to had use stems. They didn't use it because it didn't exist, but most would've if they could've.
Also if they did have stems back it would been hell for them Record labels & lawyers trying to sue people for copyright infringement. This tech which isnt even new (some of y'all is showing your age) will not create more wack artists. The same wack artist will still be wack. So don't worry about them, focus on how you can use it to make your art better, if stems is even your thing.
