Clicking a screen with a mouse all the time is monotonous and boring and working with a hardware controller is mentally stimulating and inspires creativity. This is a smart business move for both Image-Line and Akai Professional and a smarter move for beatmakers.

With respect to your response, I do have to ask - Have you used FL Studio? I don't know how right clicking on a step bank and choosing Fill Every 2/4/8 Steps is going to be made quicker and less 'monotonous' than using this controller. I'm really trying to be open minded about this, having been using FL since back in 1998 - pre vst of directx support so I have a bit of experience with FL to say the least.

Hell, I do not even see how those that prefer to program in piano roll would benefit from this either. There are much better controllers out there with flexibility in my opinion. Just the idea of having to incorporate an external step controller into what FL's fast workflow ain't it yet.

But what do I know, I don't got pink dreads or face tats so this type of controller ain't gonna match with my fronts.

Maybe cause it took a lot to come up with the cash for some of these legacy machines. Now comes in the kids who pirated a bootleg software to make beats with on their parents computers.

I hear what you're saying and have had some silly experiences of my own when I name dropped Fruity Loops back in the day. I don't want to derail the thread but I've got some dumb ass stories of some producers and one point an engineer that was giving hassle over it (as if the stems I brought on a burnt cd were of lesser value because I didn't record them from the 8out's on an MPC 2000) - So I started lying and said I made my sh*t in Cubase and stopped being questioned about it after that.

honestly, when using the step sequencer...... you always had to click the drop down to slide notes around, change velocity... and the drop down keys to change notes.... piano roll is just faster. this controller is not going to speed up adjusting note length which the lack of the ability to change that on the step sequencer is why it sucks compared to piano roll.

this is for people who want to quickly throw down a 4 on the floor... then change to pad mode to trigger a few filter sweeping house music sample pack sounds.

FL used to have some issues with the way it sounded back in the day... you used to use what it came with at that time, you didn't have VST instruments... everyone had FL even if they hid the fact... so everyone knew "the sound" ... you had to really put in work to make music that you could not tell it was made on FL. Once VST instruments and fx came out... it was a wrap. FL became one of the best sequencers available. Very flexible program. They made some changes in more recent editions that I really think took away from the workflow but simplified things for a newer audience. Reason was dope too but was locked with no VST support for a decade longer than FL... I think that really hurt propellerhead.

Back in the day fruity was just another word for flavors for a brief stint until it got riddled with homophobia later. FL came around that era so peeps thought it was some fake corporate scam to cash on the "hip hop kids" and why it was rained on. But I thought it was a catchy name at the time, something Redman would title an album.

Picked it up! Had a laptop just collecting dust on the shelf. It's officially a FL Studio machine.
