Well I like the form factor better than the Other MPCs. That price to upgrade is still a bit steep as I am already in the ecosystem (silver studio with MPC 2.0) Going standalone is the biggest takeaway for me but the LIVE already does that with a battery. Even hooked up to the software you STILL need AC power to run the thing.
This is definitely a cross-grade product, with a better price tag than the LIVE.

At $499, I would put it on my gear list TODAY!

Woke up and saw this when I opened my phone. My first thought was "how quickly can sell my Live"

Then when I took a closer look, they really dropped the ball. I wanted a standalone with all the physical buttons. But instead they still neglected the function buttons under the screen. WTF? And the layout is awful. Not one power user over at Akai. Not a one I tell you. I would have given up the battery, outputs and touch screen for a proper MPC or one that could be expanded from a base model. Now I know for sure it ain't coming any time soon. DUMB.

I get by just fine with the ram it has. I get there will always be a push for more and all that but it’s kind of a non issue for me.

As for the price point, it’s clear adding a battery would push it more towards 1000 dollar make and be kind of pointless with the live being cheaper used or about that new.

I like the form factor better than the live but I’ll agree the links look at where they at.

Think we will see the force in the same form factor? Maybe that one will have a battery? Also I’m assuming it’s 1 to 1 with the other mpcs so something like this is screaming for the ITB guys wanting to shift in standalone. From there they can upgrade to the live, x or force depending on the workflow.

Now where’s the battery operated keyboard?

You hit it on the Head. People still would Complain. Especially if the One had everything the Live is missing.
I dont think the ONE is a replacement for the Live. Its like having a Compact Car on the Roster.

Now I see the point of the Ableton integration in 2.7. The One is really targeting maschine / push users with the standalone feature as a bonus. Makes sense. MPC studio is at $300 now, there is an MPC at many different price points. The more people use the ecosystem the better it is IMO.

Also no no phono preamp is a bummer. CV/Gate? Really? No disrespect to modular lovers, but I just want a Fckn MPC. Why are they making these Frankenstein boxes? Admittedly, I DEF would have got this if it came out before the Live. My biggest gripes with the live, OS stuff aside, are the build quality, the elektron style shape, and poor ergonomics. This box should sell better than the force and def means more development for all of us.

I get that, but times have changed. Modular/CV is huge right now and has been for some time, and Akai would be just stupid to ignore that. There are more than just beat makers buying MPC's these days - many people love being able to control their hardware with it, so including CV just makes sense, IMHO. It's pretty much irresponsible to NOT include CV these days.

I unapologetically want the MPC the way I want it but you are absolutely right. But this also goes to show this is another market share grab, which, may or may not be a good thing. There is frustration seeing yet another hardware device released when they have not implemented things into the software, firmware and workflow that should have been by now. This makes me question whether they are trying to make bank on what they have established, knowing they can't push the OS much further, OR if they are getting these units out BEFORE a full software revision for OS3.

Hoping it's the latter.

No battery, so making MUSIC while: I'm at the grocery store, in surgery, at the beach, watching a movie, riding a roller-coaster, running out a burning house, at the club, at an award show, driving a car, riding a bike, climbing Mount Everest, hiking in the Grand Canyon, or in the restroom from food poison is out of the question.

Youtuber will buy it to make youtube videos.
Collectors will buy it fulfill their Completionist habits.
Beginners will buy it because it's cheap.
Hobbyist will buy it, to be apart of the conversation.
Ebay'er will buy it to SCALP it for more.
Professionals: Will buy it, use it, make money, write it off on taxes, sell it, and move on.
Others: Will buy it because it looks good on their wood table and with their potted plant.

By all means, please continue to entertain me with this discussion for my personal amusement...
