MPC One - Roland Integra 7 - Arturia Keystep Pro

The Integra 7 came yesterday and all setup with the 8 outputs and the usb to my iPad Pro for the iPad app and connected to the MPC X. The I7 sounds amazing. I should have it down in the next few days on how to take a advantage of all the features including the Stoke playing for the guitars.
Best investment I’ve made to my studio this year. Highly recommended if you compose music in stand alone.

After receiving my Integra 7 last week, I must say this thing sounds amazing. It is super easy to program from the front panel. The iPad app is also a nice addition. For stand alone sequencing with any stand alone MPC, this synth can cover all genres. Having anyone of the MPCs X/Live/One, Roland Integra makes a powerful song writing setup. 6000 plus sounds more that are free download from axial.roland.com.

Try it with a Linnstrument.

I think someone answered your questions on connection tips. I have the Integra 7 connected to my MPC X using USB and it works flawlessly.
I hope you are having fun with it.

I am connected using USB between the key 37 and the Integra. The Integra comes up in the drop down output/input list and it works if I plugg in my headphones to the Integra but I only get 1 sound and it does not change sound when I flick through the sounds list on the Integra ..

It would be great to understand in details how you are doing it..

What I am looking to do is simply to add a MIDI track to my projects and the source would be the Integra and where I could add any sound from the Integra this way, with audio coming though the key 37 of course via MIDI etc


I am very new to all of that so probably doing something stupid and asking stupid questions but one has to start somewhere some day!!

Sounds like you are quite confused about the basics. Audio does not “come through the key 37” via MIDI. MIDI is a protocol that is used to send control signals to other devices/instruments to tell them what note to play, how long, at what velocity/volume, how to modulate that note, etc. If you want to hear sounds out of your Integra, you’ll need headphones or monitor speakers plugged into its audio outputs. If you want to record the actual audio output into your MPC, you’ll need to take those outputs and plug them into your MPC’s audio inputs and arm an audio track for recording. That’s the simplified version.

When you connect both devices via MIDI cables and record on your MPC to a MIDI track, you are just recording the keys you are pressing, dials you are turning, and other control data. Not the actual sounds coming out of the Integra.

I think I get it (now!).. the Integra MIDI in/ out on MPC does not detect the Integra for some reason. It I connect them both with USB, Integra gets detected and I can select it but with MIDI, all I get on the MPC side is « MIDI Port but no sound coming out of the Integra when plugging in my headphones (which it does with USB).. I am confused as to why/why not..!

Since you seem to be new to MIDI let me clue you in on another confusing aspect: MIDI Output from one device to MIDI Input on the other device. And vice versa. You’re sending MIDI “Out” from your Integra to the MIDI “In” on your MPC to record the control data on your MPC sequencer. Conversely, when you want to play back that previously recorded sequence on your MPC to the Integra’s built-in sounds, you need the MPC MIDI “Out” plugged into the Integra’s MIDI “In”.

Ok ok thank you.. but in this case the MIDI IN from Integra to the MIDI out MPC is the only connection needed as far as MIDI is concerned correct? Or do I also need to go from
MPC In to Integra Out ?

Either way Integra MIDI IN does not get picked up by MPC out but it does with a USB connection (might be specific to the Key 37)

Depends. If you’re playing keys or tweaking knobs, etc. on the Integra that you want the MIDI data recorded onto the MPC sequencer then you will also need Integra MIDI out to MPC MIDI in.

Ok I see.. still not tire what the MIDI connection does not detect the Integra having said that
