Is there a list of available MPC standalone plugins?

Yeah okay, i see what you're getting at. I am confused why they call it ''third party plugin'' because i thought i read Akai owns Air now, and there are no other current third parties making any plugins nor has it been advertised.

But surely, if this was possible to really use third party plugins, it would be a huge deal and akai would have promoted this. Remember when propellerhead was all happy they finally supported vst's? only 5 years too late

Anyway, enough about this..

People seem to only focus on the 3 synths, but let's not forget the effects which are all plugins as well. inMusic owns Air Music Technology - not Akai - it's just the same parent company. As such, there are Akai branded effects on the current generation of MPC's, so it makes sense that these Akai branded effects show up as their own line of plug-ins. Referring to the Air developed plugins as "third party plugin" makes complete sense to differentiate between Air branded and Akai branded, IMHO.

I do believe the platform is ripe for more plugins from both, but I am curious as to whether it would be opened up to any manufacturer who plays ball with inMusic via an in-house SDK, or if it will just remain Air Music Tech that takes the reigns.

On a side note, what the hell has Air Music Tech been doing these past few years to generate meaningful revenue on their own for inMusic? Do they have any recent products that are a resounding success that people talk about? I remember seeing some promos for Drum Synth 500 about a year ago, but... it's not talked about at all really that I can see. Is Hybrid 3 still a thing? Its GUI/UX looks like it came out in 2005, but it's only a 5 year old product. And don't get me started on Xpand!2, which can be found for as little as $1 USD sometimes.

MPC Live in standalone mode does not support 3rd party Virtual Instruments or FX. This is only available when MPC 2.0 Controller Mode is activated.

Maschine + stand-alone has Kontak, massive and others built in. I hope it pushes akai to add more also.

I don't think Maschine+ has Kontakt (yet?), but it does have Massive, FM8 and Monark

Anyone know if it records audio tracks as well, and if so - how they're handled? Can't find any mention of audio tracks on the product page.

Yea it says you can record any audio. the fact it has massive should have akai shaking their boots

I am glad I found this thread, it saved me some headache and wasted time searching around for (apparently nonexistent) plug-ins for my MPC Live II. Hopefully Akai wises up in the future and allows other companies to release VST instruments for the MPC Live OS, imo it would make everyone more money. I know this sounds corny but I wanted a General MIDI or Roland Sound Canvas plug-in or VST for my Live

lol truth be told, anyone (savy enough) cross compile a number of open source vst plugins put them on the unit as .so then write some kinda vst preloader to set up a virtual interface to the vsti and bobs your uncle. I am not interested in doing so, maybe one day down the road if i get bored but i just bought a microkorg for "studio del ultros". Unless you're gonna dev a or build proper high res-synth stuff dont bother, its a 32bit floating point audio processor 16bit synths are gonna sound like crud. May as well bus your laptop into it. One thing i think folks forget is there are alot of junk low bit-depth vsts out there. all they are is sources of clicks pops and harsh ugly sounds.

The goal is to aim high and render low (if thats what you want to do). Not aim low and attempt to polish a turd. I know someone will respond to this with an argument but theres no argument that bitdepth (resolution) is key to quality sounding digital audio and anyone who argues that is not a sane studio head.

Also.. akai has given us all that we truely need in terms of onboard synthesis. Tubesynth is a polyphonic synth with all the trimmings. Bassline is a mono synth with all the trimmings. Not a fan of Electric but it has a fairly decent amount of options for a electric keys. Also if thats not good enough, if you really want those ridiculous noises theres always "program edit" for polyphonic wave form oscillation. There's so many tools already on the mpc that do all the things you want out of most synths that adding zillions of vst plugins seems counter to the reason for buying the MPC. You migrated to hw for a reason. Enjoy it for what it is.
