Seem like Akai have a new business model that's setup for modern times. Make 1 main OS, but multiple types of models with longer support. 2.0 is pro diversity they even made the Force 5 years ago with it own OS that just been updated to 3.3.0. What will the mysterious red ninja do next?

I think technically this is like Akai Pro 4.0

You had the OG Akai from the 70s/80s/90s.. Fathers of the MPC 60/3K/2K/2KXL, and all the S series samplers.

Akai '2.0' was a bunch of former management that bought the name around the end of the 90s, released the 1K and 4K and Z series samplers (still had the MPC2K on the market too).

Numark bought them not even 5 years later, aka Akai 3.0, colored the 2K/4K/Z Series in blue (1K got changed to black and got better pads) to get rid of remaining inventory and put out the 500/2500/5000.

InMusic swallowed up Numark, and took over all of it, which is where we are today.

That was James Ting. He was convicted to 6 years in prison, only spent 1 year in prison, and "escaped" via a couple of re-trials. That was 2007. He's likely hiding out in China/Macau and living off of cash he stole and hid. Sucks what he did, but had he not - Akai wouldn't gave gone bankrupt and inMusic probably wouldn't have bought them (not when they did anyway), and we wouldn't have the new MPC or Force.
