That vst lineup you highlighted is already in stand alone mode. So as it sits, it’s still the same as an mpc live and MPK attached

Not exactly, the MPC Key 61 looks like it ships with at least 16 plugins (8 new ones that were leaked). Even the new firmware update doesn't include these plugins, so it may be possible that there's some additional integration or features that haven't been announced yet. We're still not completely sure of the I/O either.

Also, MPD MPK Ray posted pics of some the original AIR Virtual Instruments (Structure, Xpand, B33 and Loom). These haven't been included in the MPC software yet, but it is possible they could be included with the MPC Key 61. I'm still waiting to see what all of the features are before I make any hasty generalizations.

No matter what it's new it's 2k different vut to us old heads it's the same if u have a live one or X .. all u will need is your midi keyboard to use it the same way.. not sure why to buy if u have one already. It looks great but to add with a current MPC is redundant...

I’m really hoping it has MIDI out via USB this time. The Live, One, and X do not. That would make it the ultimate centerpiece of a songwriting/production studio.

When you turn of the lights, does it turn them off entirely, or do they still light up Red/Yellow/Green for velocity? I'm not in front of my MPC to try it right now.

Can someone answer the above poster’s question? I want to be sure the pad lights can be completely disabled. I’ve heard you can turn the pad lights off by adjusting the color of the light, but then the lights will come back on for certain modes of operation. Anyone know if by changing the pad lights color, there’s a way to make it so that the pad lights are completely disabled in all modes and never come on? I’d like to rip the pad lights out if I could.

Putting my $2,000 dollars I had saved for the MPC Key 61 back in my wallet. Having annoying bright colorful rainbow glowing pad lights (that can’t be disabled!!!) flashing and shining up against my face and illuminating directly into my eye pupils and distracting me as I’m trying to compose on a keyboard unfortunately is a deal breaker for me. Akai, I suggest in a future software update you should allow users to disable those god awful ugly pad lights I don’t get why this new generation likes to have their audio gear flashing every color of rainbow lights looking like a god damn UFO. Do I have to choose between going blind or having an epileptic seizure just so I could adapt to the modern MPC workflow

the vacuum synth looks the most interesting but i wonder if all these new features will start to bloat the OS; I think they should give people to the option to uninstall features that that they dont want.

No way key61 standalone can have vacuum or loom or mini grand or other Air deep synths.
Not enough Ram, not enough powerful CPU.

If key61 has same ram and cpu of Mpc, just forget about it.

Still, I don't think other keyboard players would prefer it over the Roland Fantom-06 . In this category quality sounds/presets is the key ....
Also , for current mpc users ,could you explain to me why you'll buy it ? What's the benefit over your current mpc ?
Don't get me wrong , I hope sales will be great for Akai since it will help improving the MPC line (and Force)

I completely agree with this point. The 4K, my Roland Fantom X, the ASR-10, and the Alesis Ion all have more sophisticated features than the MPC Synths. Even my 10 year old Mininova has a decent mod matrix!

Still no strum, phrase sequencer, Z-series functions, 8 sample layers in the keygroup engine, FM algorithms, True "Skip Back Sampling" (not that retrospective record mess, totally different feature). I love my MPCs, but I feel like the software is still 10 years behind even if it is only 5 years old.

Yes, you can turn off pad colours by selecting 'Fixed > none' in the pad colour screen. This will also disable the velocity based colours. However, the colours will still appear if you enable pad perform mode and any other screen where pad colours are used to indicate/highlight a specific pad, e.g. browser assign, pad copy etc.

I wouldn't make any hasty generalizations until we see an Andy Mack video.

Remember, Xpand!2, Mini Grand, and DB-33 only require 1GB of RAM. The rest of the AIR VSTi's only require 4GB, so it is possible that they either upgraded the RAM with a new SoC, or they made optimized versions of older plugins, just like how Vaccum Pro became Tubesynth.

Fabric XL may very well be a scaled down version of Structure. Don't doubt Akai, I think they still have some rabbits to pull out of the hat.
