I had issues with the firmware update, but I followed this video and it worked fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEyxcoV3-Fg

As you said go to the preferences screen, then via shift enter the menu for the update mode. After shutdown and entering update mode plug Live to your computer via a functional (check your cable) USB cable and run the 2.0.3 updater. That's it!I did it last night and it was so easy...I don't know what computer do you have mine is a MacBook Pro..I've heard there's no support for Windows 7 and such..

;-) yeah the thing is, my live won't enter update mode, it just stays of after shutting down itself when I hit that button. Even tried to physically uninstall the SSD, just to be sure.. Will go for a reset now to give it another try, but I guess there's something wrong. No reply by akai yet btw.

edit: no difference after reset.

Are you guys doing this by the Live MPC or you doing this by mpc 2.0 software on a computer?
By PaddyWhack Sat Jul 15, 2017 5:21 pm
Hi, Windows 7 user here, (hence no Live software installed), . now updated after a couple of false starts: forgot to plug in power source, .... also tried putting the update file on a SD card to see if the Live might update from the SD card. :-) Connected to desktop with a spare printer cable I knew to be okay, and updated fine, thanks.

Received feedback from Akai (german support) regarding the no update mode issue. My MPC needs to be replaced.

@Travis Bickle: "Anyone else having trouble to get the new update on the MPC Live ?! I get constantly a a error message ?"

Yes Travis, me too,

every time the firmware updater 2.0.3 crashes on my MacBook Pro OS X 10.11.6. 2,2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. – Updating is not possible ! – Some other Mac Users have the same problem.

Lapidary Conclusion from AKAI Support:
"The problem is not the live, it's your computer."

But on my computer MPC 2.0 runs otherwise wonderful, and even in the controller mode with the MPC Live. – That's why I think, it's a bug in the firmware updater for MAC OS X. – Now I will try an other USB-Cable, not the original Blue.

Just got my new machine... and what can I say?
Figured as much, Akom. Well, at least the next one SHOULD be able to update.....

It does! :-)

So, this time hopefully all is fine with my new Live :worthy:

Btw, the cable that came with my new unit was a pos.. the old one provided a solid connection, this one though is ... well. But update worked after holding my breath so I didn't move the cable a single bit..

Oh, and for the record, using a Win7 Laptop ;)

Nice one, mate!! Glad to hear you're up & running!!! :-D :-D
That's pretty swift for Akai!!
3 days since they got back to you.... did Akai replace it directly, or direct you to a local retailer?

Thanks ;) I'm really glad also!

Well, in this case it was the good collaboration of the german support from akai and the team from Musicstore.de, they really helped as fast as possible.

They would have shipped a new unit to me after sending back the other one, but luckily I got close to their shop today anyhow, so of course we agreed on bringing in the live and taking a new one with me directly, saving time and shipping costs 8)

Didn't really have time for extended testing yet, but first impression says, it's alright. Installed the firmware first, then installed the SSD drive and tried loading my projects from there - works flawless. Next steps will be checking out all I/O etc, hopefully will find some time for this on the weekend now.
