it's a solid device sure... but the messaging/marketing is so weird to me.

The message all hear is $399.99 :-D :-D :-D they could care less about vintage sounds and old school features. MPC Sample is nice I just dont have space or time for it..

It seems for me that the MPC Sample is the first MPC ever to give only one track to its users :-) ahaha it reminds me of the David Guetta piano
Image

MPC is / was? /a line of products giving multitrack sequencing... I can't believe people saying the Sample is a "gamechanger" , so limited in my opinion, no keygroups, no tracks, 32 bar sequence, everything that I love in my MPC's has disappeared.. But of course, these limitations can be used to make good music and beats, so no problem.. would buy one for the portable aspect if it was 150euros, like a better AKAI MPX 16... for the moment, KOALA Sampler, even on an Android Phone is so much better to make portable beats, so immediate and better workflow...

Compared to MPC Sample my MPC one + is great to actually make music (within its own limitations) : CV / midi out programs, keygroups, a whole bunch of effects and synths, clip matrix to impovise, automation, edit and chopping is far more advanced, contextual Q LINKS and Pad colors are very useful, the device is rather small really easy to use with a powerpack (not anyone, a good one). I think the hype about MPC Sample will soon go down, or it will prove that lots of beatmakers don't really use the power of this generation of MPC, and would be using only a poor part of their legacy models. multi track sequencing is so important , and that what's i also don't like in SP 404, and the big limit of Koala Sampler ( than you can workaround with the 4 busses/submixes)

Don't take it hard, of course MPC Sample seems also a very good complement for MPC Live, one, X owners , which can use these limitations to go straight to the point on a bus seat. But does it worth the price of an used MPC one + ? i don't think so. For 250 bucks you get a very good 8G0 RAM new android tablet or used Ipad , koala sampler and a pad controller that gives you everything of this, minus the hype....

I think it also appeals to people that find it hard to ignore the many features on the full MPCs. There nothing stopping anyone from just using one track on any of the other MPCs & most of the other features. The portability plays obviously plays a major role, but I think the Sample will make many just want a gen2 MPC One with a battery & Akai knows that & will make that too.

Yes it's true, an entry instrument to the ecosystem... I love the mpc workflow but I also use modular and semi modular synths , logic , reaper, accordion, tascam 4 track cassette recorder... wouldn't need several mpc but rather a treated room and a bigger studio lol

ROFL @ david guettas piano. Man you guys ever seen any of the videos floating around of him fake mixing at events and standing there drugged outta his face staring into nothingness? when i was a teenager i used to frequent drum n bass / break beat parties with real djs using wax slaughtering it in real time.. now in 2026 apparently everybody pre-records their mix set and just dances around and jump up and down on stage while pushing buttons and twisting knobs on unlit gear.

anyways long story short david guetta is a goon..

Wanna see some good acts? congo natty, EIB, total science, shy fx, stakka and skynet all amazing in person.

Welcome to the future of beatmaking where instead of mastering your machine just the sheer amount of machines you have purchased count as a skill.

(Damn I wish I was joking)

I've been noticing that too, for years. I call it the Pokemon Mastery.

Initially, people was told they had to practice and master a martial art, or a sport, or any particular skill, in order to be good at it, to eventually become the the best, and then win a championship, or get somehow recognized as someone who is good at something.

That's what people used to do and that's what fiction was telling children they should do as well: Do something, work hard and become the best. There are thousands of books, movies, cartoons and TV shows about it. Self improvement was always about practice.

And then Pokemon disrupted that, because to be a Pokemon master you didn't have to possses or develop any special skills... All you had to do was collect every **** Pokemon and they would make YOU the best.

Music creation have somehow gone that way, at least the electronic side of it: most people don't actually care about learning some theory, be good at playing an instrument, be a skilled DJ, or be a lyrical genius... All that matters is getting the latest gear because that new ring-modulation-sidechain-compressor is what you need to do your music. You already have six or seven ring-modulation-sidechain-compressors, but they're not like the new one. The new one makes your kicks and snares more punchy. Gotta cath em all.

PS: I confess I've done that too.

Well, the big selling point is the portability, plus the charm of being one single hardware device. I think everyone's bored of MIDI controllers and apps.

Anyway, I'll personally wait a bit for the hype to fade out before spending 400€...

thank you too, i'm glad not to be alone on not being keen of loving a one track only mpc. 175 bucks is my last price for yours lol.

Fair point on the single hardware device self containing "everything you need" to make music.... , that's why I 've gotten some MPC's these years ( 1000, then Live 1 , then ONE +, but each one after the other ) . And banging the pads is something you don't find on a tablet, nor a synth.
And Ableton live, Reaper or Logic, any Boss Rc looper, don't t give you this feeling of simultaneously compose , play, improve the sound and mix while banging your head . on this aspect, MPC's feel like real instrument, as a piano, a guitar or a modular synth, a TR 808, or ...Fruity Loops 5 + Cool Edit Pro ( private old lol) .

Pokemon Mastery times is also true, thanks for speaking about it ... at least try to own instruments made for different purposes. And why not, sometimes, a brand new ("absolutely brand new", would have said Frank Zappa) plastic Side Chain ring modulator, of course :smoker:
