Disk streaming works exactly the same as it does on Force, so the short answer is: yes. Easily. The longer answer is: you can stream more than 8 if you also use a Drum Program to trigger more. How many you can get depends on your disk performance (SSD highly recommended), the phase of the moon, and how much salt you throw over your shoulder.

I have a 512 gb SD XC Class 10 card in the MPC One, would you still suggest using an external SSD?
I tend to have time to spend on my gear on full moon days, I think the electromagnetic and gravitational force should be quite powerful

In an MPC One? No, I would just stick with the SD card, the USB port on the MPC One is USB 2.0, so you're not going to get the speed advantages of the SSD. I believe real world speed of USB 2.0 is around 30MB/s, modern SD cards are significantly faster, assuming the MPC SD card reader can support those speeds (not all SD card readers are created equal).

Will Akai ever allow us the option of manually controlling when the overdub function is engaged? Instead of forcing it to be engaged at the end of every loop like I don’t know what the hell im doing and I need Akai to hold my hand while I craft my sequences? To me everything else is just noise.

Sorry, can you explain this in more detail? Are you saying you want the MPC to remain in 'REC' mode even after looping back to the beginning of the sequence?

Ok thanks for the note!

dustyslices wrote:Yeah, but you're streamed them from a single I/O device (SSD) right ? or did you tried to stream from SSD and SD card at the same time ? or internal SSD + USB SSD ? or any combination of these ? Reason I'm asking is I wonder if you just hitting the limit of streaming device bandwidth (SSD) without hitting the limit of internal bus to which all of the I/O devices are connected. If that's the case then theoretically it would be possible to stream an additional set of samples from a different device. :-D

On Force, when you stream audio, it is strongly recommended that you do it from 1 location: from an SSD installed in the SATA bay. And while the SD Card and USB ports go over the same USB interface that the SATA bay does, Akai still recommends doing it from the SATA bay and an SSD. Thus, I have never tried doing it from multiple locations at the same time. But I always transfer any content that I took to my Force on a USB stick or SD Card onto my SSD anyway, so... there's that. Obviously YMMV, and if users are streaming audio from multiple locations at the same time, it will likely affect performance to a degree as well.

How much of a degree? No clue. I haven't checked the moon phase this week or held any candle burning ceremonies over my Force or MPC yet.

If you're on an MPC that doesn't have a SATA cradle, then clearly use the fastest SD Card you can get or fastest USB stick you can get. Again, it all goes over the same USB controller (even the SATA cradles on applicable hardware). I'd surmise that Akai recommends using an SSD in the SATA cradle-equipped machines because even the jankiest (used that word for all the geezers who hate "unprofessional" American slang  ) SSD will typically (usually) have better read/write performance and seek times than the fastest SD Cards/USB sticks.

You could always try an external SSD over USB, but that introduces yet another USB controller (usually on the external SSD case side) into the equation. Would love to see your results, though! Let us know what you end up doing.

Yes, if I want it to, absolutely. Right now overdub is engaged automatically. I would like to have a choice between automatic or manual control, could be a settings option. Manual control would mean I could loop and jam endlessly until I feel the loop is right, instead of when Akai feels like it’s right.

Sorry, but why would you want that? If it remains in 'record' mode after looping back to the beginning it will record over the notes you recorded in the first 'pass'. What is the exact use case for this?

BTW you can turn off 'sequence loop' if you never want it to go into overdub (but it will continue to add bars as it records).

Stuff up the first pass. Nail the second pass. If it flips to overdub you're then having to edit notes out on grid.
An option for either behaviour would be useful. Hold shift and hit record to flip for eg.
Much easier than hitting undo etc

Can you arm and record more than one stereo audio track simultaneously in 3.0?

It'd be great to record eg keys and vocal each on separate stereo tracks.

Or use it as the place to record three people jamming on three devices.

Also, when are they sending out links, did I miss an email?

If I mess up the first pass, I can just keep recording until I don’t mess it up. When I like what I’ve recorded, I can just hit stop or overdub. This means the music can keep flowing, uninterrupted. I don’t have to go “oops, stop, record, play start”. I can just keep on jammin’ man. Do you not see how could this be immensely fun?

No clue who the kid is, but from the little clips of his 'music' in that video, he makes the most generic paint by numbers 'techno/house' you could do. I'd rather watch Stranjah's awkward ass do one of his 'How to make a stereotypical 90s ambient Jungle track' videos again.
