Danoc wrote:You're right about disk streaming to standalone but you can also have it with a computer. Take away the MPC and you're using say Eastwest Orchestral stuff, you would be dealing with ram or that hard drive.

People are asking for it in the standalone.

Frisbi wrote:Disk streaming has nothing to do with computer, sir. It's for standalone.
What the heck, big confusion here.
If you use computer, you use computer resources.
Disk streaming would be for standalone.

Man is very easy.
If your Mpc is connected to a computer, it is using cpu and ram of the computer.
So no Mpc disk streaming would affect your computer.
if you use Mpc with computer, just put 16 or 32gb of Ram on computer and that's it, no disk streaming needed at all.
Dead easy.

How do you like it so far? What other MPC's have you had? One of my buddies got his One the other day and loves it so far. I've had a Live for a few months. I'm happy with it, but I like the layout of the buttons on the Studio Black more than the Live. Made navigating through the options a lot easier for me. The One seems like a nice middle ground between the Studio Black and the Live. I'm thinking about selling my Live to pick one up.

 you're trading in the Live to get the One?
I love the battery on the Live. Nothing like that

Actually the final sound is a result of mpc + mixer. I noticed Mpc Live can be used at maximum level without any audible distortion and also with half of the gain of mixer.
When it's at unity level on the mixer, it's at about -12 on studio1.
I guess Mackie choose to send it this way through firewire, to give headroom when recording.
I like this, I track out 6 outputs plus 2 outputs of Mc101 so I can still make a mixing after I record all in real time as a live.

If that's the case, then your mixer is not at unity gain with the mpc and studio one.

I've had 60, 3000, 2000 (Sold) 2000XL (Have but unused.), 4000 (Still use them.), LIVE, X, (Returned) and now One. The Studio Black was created so that every functions had a button. Unfortunately the MPC ONE is not designed that way. You still have to use the touch screen for many options. The only things I miss, would be the curse button, function buttons and faders.

But other than, everything is great. So I take it, you're not using the extra MIDI outs and Audio output of the MPC LIVE. Are you using the LIVE in standalone or controller mode, since coming from the Black?

Danoc wrote:If l never had the Live the One would be perfect for me. Being l just do drums. And l don't need a bunch of outs, because l export my drums and import them into my DAW. The pads wouldn't bother me because they are the same size as the LPD8 and l rock those. As long as tge sequencer is tight me and the One could roll. I didn't put a hard drive in live.

Like I was saying when the MPC LIVE came out. If Akai Pro was on it, they would allow audio over IP using the Ethernet port on the MPC ONE or USB. They could create a USB daughter card to that extends the in/outs and MIDI for all the MPC'S.

Shame we can't assign the Metronome to the CV outs. That way the euro rack guys, could use it for CV Clock. Unless, it's already possible. Does anyone know how to do that? Another function that would be cool, is if the cv/gate could be used as audio outs.

My mixer is at unity gain.
The firewire on it is designed to send the signal at -12.
This is why in studio1 the signal enters at -12.
Mackie design.

I only really use the headphone port, SD card, master l/r audio out, USB for my MPK Mini, and USB to my Mac. I do use the battery every now and then but not as much as I thought I would. I still find myself using controller mode more than standalone because I'm more familiar with navigating the software than I am navigating the Live menus. But I've been going through the MPC Bible Tutorials to learn the Live interface.

Play a 0db sine wave from the MPC, then the mixer's meter should be 0 db, and studio one should be a 0db. Then the system is at unity gain. Every meter should be the same.

I bet you fly around on the software. The live has one more midi in/out, one more usb port, 4 more outputs. Which later on could help you. The battery thing is a gimmick in my opinion. It's sounds cool, that it's portable. But for me, it just became another thing to charge. Plus I found, I like making music, in front of my monitors.

So once you're able to use the LIVE like you did the Studio Black, you'll be flying. It just depends, if the LIVE gels with the way you think.

Again, Mackie Onyx 1220i is a firewire mixer that sends any channel via firewire to computer.
It sends it at -12 even if the meter of the mixer is at 0db.
It works like this.

If that's the case, it may be time for new mixer. But then again, it is a mackie and those guys do strange things.

Why a new mixer? i like it. It has very good preamps even if eq is crap.
Yeah I'll upgrade to a Tascam model 12 soon, so I can record all channels straight to an sd card.

Unity gain is at 0db, but 0db in analogue is actually -12db in digital. You clip above 0db on your MPC/DAW, you don't clip above 0db on an analogue mixer. So your firewire works perfectly! Because you can go above 0db on your mixer, so when you reach the clipping level on your mixer in Studio1 you should be close to 0db and as soon you clip on your mixer it should go above 0db in Studio1.I hope it make sense.
That's why in few post later I say I track at -12db in my Daw to give to my plugin what they expect, because they mainly simulate hardware.
