How is an optional workflow that you don't have to even touch, if you so choose to stay with the "classic" workflow, a bad thing? Sequences and Song Mode is still there. We now just have an additional avenue to workflow, and that's a workflow that virtually all young/new producers (read: new customers) will understand as they've been using it since mom and dad bought them their first computer.

MPC is evolving, and I only see this as a good thing.

I have been using The MPC for 30 years and to see it evolve to 3.0 will be a dream come true.. so now I can concentrate on an organized workflow.. I'm sure when we get it it will take a few hours and then we will love it.. most users like myself bought the maschine controller bqck in the day just because of the easy workflow and the arranger.. now we get it in standalone without complaining about the software.. and you can still use it in your DAW like I do.. this is a great step forward and should be appreciated..

The bigger issue is that most of the insight in this thread (and around the web) are from people who haven't even spent any time in front of the stable public release of MPC 3, yet are very quick to dismiss and judge it. I wonder what the temperature will be in another 6 months among the MPC community? :hmmm:

Of course, all this rambling is speculation at most. But we have to have some fun aren't we?

And those of us who have and still aren't sold on it are called whingers or never happy or old heads.

You should make a video about this so people can (hopefully) stop asking the same questions.

Perhaps you could create a template reply that says something like ”The new MPC Bible will probably be ready six months after the stable MPC 3 version is released … which in turn could be another six months from now.”

That's the thing - none of you have - including myself. The stable public release isn't out and isn't even close to being out. So... :hmmm:

Ok. Missed that. Il give you that one.

However. My issues aren't likely to be solved by a stable public release. :)

Really looking forward to it. Two of my three wishlist sorted.
Now I just need an HDMI out on the next gen of MPC and I'm done.......well for the time being.

I have a funny feeling that as there hasn't been any mention of a software version of 3 that maybe akai is going all in on standalone. Doing a modern version of the Roland MV, which is what I wanted all along.

Time will tell.

My original skepticism of 3.0 was based on bad videos from YouTubers that made it look like the old mpc workflow was gone. But as more info from legit people like tutor have come out it looks like my fears were unwarranted. We still have sequences and song mode so I’m good. Programs will be a little bit different but overall I don’t think it’ll throw off my workflow like I originally thought

I just don’t get the DAWless DAW crowd.

So many people seem to have convinced themselves that just cramming a full desktop DAW into a dedicated hardware will get them past whatever blocks they have. As if the laptop is the problem, as opposed to having the patience and perseverance to learn the tools and do the difficult part that comes between having the idea and finishing a track. It’s always going to be a worse experience than using a proper DAW unless it comes down to attaching a mouse, keyboard and 19” monitor to your MPC at which point I’m not seeing how it’s different to just using a laptop. And people who want this will never be happy, because fundamentally what they think they need is a contradiction in terms that will never work in reality.

..........snip..........

3.0 looks like it will still work fine in cases where it all drops into place one block after another, but for the more usual experimentation it’s a massive step backwards. Aside from also killing live performance and a bunch of other basic techniques. Breaking fundamentals that were working just fine to please people who can’t be pleased.

Not much point to this post other than venting, but I needed to get it off my chest.

That's one perspective I guess. I've used DAWs and sequencers on the computer for most of my life, back to the 80's even. I came into the MPC via the software version as a VSTi in a DAW. I like drum sequencers better than most DAW "versions", so I searched for a plugin drum machine that gave me a hardware feel, hence the MPC, and the hardware that felt the most intuitive is the MPC Live for me.

Along the way I do like writing in the MPC in standalone, the limitations notwithstanding. IMO and this is just me, it's not the limitations that make it better in some ways, it's the integration. I can get that level of feel in a DAW, but things get broken. I have an iPad set up with a DAW controlling software Metagrid, and it's great, but another software update on the Mac for my DAW DP replaced the custom key commands that did things like select quantization settings, opened rarely used windows, etc. etc. Then you're back in left brain math territory setting up your DAW, and that's a workflow killer.

On the other hand with the MPC Live I can always be assured that things just work. I 100% get it in these terms why people are upset about Mute being temporarily broken or the Programs paradigm changing etc. but this is a major change, probably the last to disrupt workflow.

All in all though, that's the deal, it's not the limitations, it's the integration. I travel a lot and it really matters that I don't need more than the MPC Live II to write in a hotel room. The integration is not going away with 3.0.

If you have your one of the lucky ones... remember you don't have to upgrade just don't complain when ship has sale..

Do me a favor install 2.03 firmware and tells us if you adapted and like the updates..

Some youtubers did a great job others not so much that is because they are learning the new OS. I'm sure when released no one will jump ship :-D

What ships going to sail? It's a free upgrade. Il take the upgrade on my account and roll back. What an odd suggestion.

Lol. I started on 1. Something. :) That change to 2.? Was a colour change and a little rearranging from a pc /renaissance point of view.
No huge changes really just a gradual progression. Standalone I think I was at 2.6

Correct I don't have to upgrade. I would say that means no more bug fixes but Akai can't seem to fix the bugs they've had in the firmware for years so probably make bugger all difference long term.

Definitely given up all hope of Basic file management. Magic 3.4 hasn't delivered on that.

My decision on not upgrading was made within a few days. Until midi clips and track mutes are in il just dabble for he sake of testing. I live in hope but in it's current form it's a no.

Arranger view. Pretty but pretty useless.
Disk Streaming. Nope. No use for it.
Mixer. Nope. Il be honest. I preferred the original. It suited how I utilised programs. Not worth losing the flexibility of programs for.

That's my opinion. As I've said before. If I'm going to be forced into working in a linear fashion I might as well use my PC.
