And you can only say that thinking it's not useful. And you can only think it's not useful if you don't use it and believe others don't either.

Several folks have given examples of how they use it outside of your exaggerated examples, but you still insist it's a gimmick. Odd.

Many people love the battery on Live and I am amongst them.
When you move from a studio to the other, for example, is very comfortable.
There are many situation where it could be handy in a serious pro environment, especially if you have to move and if you travel.
This man is just playing, never mind, it's his way of having fun. He just ordered a One, which is a downgrade of Live, but he stills think he can say what's right or wrong for Akai or its users.
Just to say, I think that Live sold so good especially for battery, because it's definitely a bonus on an Mpc.
Just look at how many people complain for the lack of battery on One.
But yeah, One has better pads, isn't it? And more outputs, isn'it?
It's better then Live because it's new and it's the trend of the moment to say it looks sexy.
Imagine with same money or even slightly less you can get a used Live with definitely top class pads 6 outputs and a BATTERY.
Yeah exactly, a battery.

He might be biased. Maybe he lives in the hood or somewhere where he feels unsafe and would never carry it around? Beats me. I live in an area where I can safely take it to the park downtown, and frequently take it on vacation or when I'm out of town on business/leisure. Love having the self-contained battery - it's truly been a life saver. Even at home in the studio it's awesome - I can unplug it at any time and take it upstairs to the livingroom and sit on the couch without having to mess with wires (or a portable battery pack  ), as well as sit in the floor of my studio and sample old vinyl. I've even taken it crate diving into some local second hand record shops to sample (I know the owner of one store, they're totally cool with it. Other stores I've had to slide the person working some cash to let me peruse and sample their collection).

Bottom line is - the Live's built-in battery is far from a "gimmick". Suggesting as such is grossly out of touch with reality, IMHO.

Yeah, the battery is a "feature" not a "gimmick" in the live's case.

Anyway, back to the One, does anyone else think that no rca's was a glaring omission? Can you sample from a modern USB table??

No button to "Like", so yeah, quoting this because that's what I do. I don't really use my table much at all anymore, but when I do its currently wired to go through my 18i20 (partnered with a patch bay) - and from there, any of my devices can grab the signal depending on what I'm using *I swear that has been the best non-sound generating purchase I've ever made...being able to have that signal or any signal - output to MPC, Force, and PC - without having to play the "which wire" game - is TERRFIC, doubles for adding other devices as I can plug in a random keyboard if I want and play it on anything.*

Wait is the battery thing coming up again? *Le Sigh*. What's funny though, because of the form factor and my actual needs, if they had kept a battery and SDD option, there is a solid chance I'd move in that direction. I'd be cool selling my Live and getting this form factor (if I was about breaking even), but I'm losing too much with the One, I have a hate/hate relationship with SD Cards, and don't want to rely on a USB stick.

And I'm  at Frisbi's story. Granted I DO have beats with names like that "Dentistry" or "Tire & Battery", but a lifted car is hilarious.

I think it was an omission they had to make in order to lower the One's cost, and to keep the Live/X a "premium" line that was separate.

I don't show the battery is a trick, deceptive, or confusing. It provides power to the MPC Live when you don't have access to an outlet. What am I missing?

Funny thing is, the battery really shocked me. Being a big gap from the Ren to the new MPCX/Live, Akai did that right. You had the Flag ship X, then the Portable battery Live. So the buyer could buy the X, which is stationary, or Live which is portable. opposite from being a gimmick but a nice plan for MPC users. We never had a battery in a machine like that, that was genius. I was hyped when I saw that, and immediately my mind started going places, where I could take it without worrying about a cord.  7 hours of battery time was dope, it had more battery time than my laptop, I thought that was dope! The thing is, a lot off people got hyped over that battery alone and got the Live because of it.

Again I couldn't see myself trading my Live for The One, and I thought first off, The One has a battery and bammmmmmm, Nope!

I think it was strictly to separate the One from the Live. They gave CV and limited all other I/O. Perfect split IMO, at least from Akai's perspective. Another upgrade or 2 on the One and no one would be interested in the Live.

I think the MPC line satisfies most with the existing line up. I'd be surprised if they released anything else before MKIIs.

You guys are right, the battery is not a gimmick. It's a major feature that is irreplaceable. I mean look at all the machines Akai Pro released after the LIVE, that doesn't have a battery. (Edit: If any of these came out after the MPC Live please correct it.)

MPC X
AKAI FIRE
AKAI FORCE
MPC ONE
MPK Mini Play
MPK Road 88
MPD 232
MPD 226
MPD 218

Also you guys take the word gimmick, as if it's something negative, which it is not. Everything that is for sale, has some sort of gimmick.

+1000! The MPC One doesn't need a phono input.

My DAWS of choice is S1.4.6 and Reason 11, I think I know what you mean. I am directly inside the box, I have no interface or extra outside hardware running through something, and then something running through another thingy and then into the interface.

1. is that what's going on? You have different things connected before they hit the interface?
2. Or which one do you use, VU or Peak metering? I look at both in Reason.

TheDoctor wrote:
Im not sure who told you that, but they're dead wrong. 0db is 0db regardless of whether its digital or analog. DBu is a defined measure of RMS voltage, its a standard, there is no variation. 0DBu=0DBu. And DBfs, just references full scale where 0db is the absolute top of the range it can go. If 0db in your mixer is hitting -12db anywhere else, then something in the chain isn't calibrated correctly. Either your mixer needs a tune up, or the device you're using to measure is **** and needs to be adjusted.

There's definitely a conversion happening. It's true there's not a standard put generally is around that ratio. It all depend about your set up, if you look into the specs of you audio interface and your DAW you would be able to calculate the ratio. I hope DAW simply let us select different meter so we could understand easily.
Anyway just for fun try a dbwhaterver app. Run the same file in your DAW and in your mixer. Check your DAW first and then see how much you have to adjust to get the same value on your mixer. The meter of your DAW and your mixer they will probably have 12ishdb of difference.

Of course if it sounds good whatever but honestly it become second nature for me even visually. Notice how -12db is basically at the middle of the fader in Studio1 and Ableton is at -18db. It also give you the best ratio for your fader. Try in your DAW with a gain tool and see how your fader react better when your instruments is around that range.[/quote]

You see?

They stole my car because of the battery of Mpc.

They stole your car because you didn't install a kill switch to your......BATTERY! If this story is a true. How did you get home? Did the beat turn out any good? How did they get your car to work, when you said it stopped working? While sitting on the bench did you discover any cool workarounds?

Yeah I discovered that using Mpc with battery can also be dangerous.
The car was old, I have to thank the men who stole it so they give me some money and get rid of it.
I asked for a lift to go back home and I also made a new beat during that lift sitting just next to the driver with headphones on.
So now I have a mixed feeling about battery. They stole my car because of that but meanwhile I made two more tracks, one called Bench and the other Lift.

I bought the One because I didn't need it for the Input/Output, MIDI, or USB. I have other gear that can handles all that.

The pads have the same feel, just slightly smaller. You still hit the center of the pad. I didn't need the one for the outputs, that's what, render stems are for. I didn't buy because it was trend or new or sexy. Many people sent 3 year beta testing the MPC LIVE and X. Now the MPC One has a mature software, that is way better, then what the Live or X started out with.

Or we're using one of the following definitions and you're using another.

Gimmick:
an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention or increase appeal.

a concealed, usually devious aspect or feature of something, as a plan or deal:

a hidden mechanical device by which a magician works a trick or a gambler controls a game of chance.
