automation and filtering questions for audio tracks - mpc li

Hi.

I recently acquired a Live and would greatly appreciated any help with a few questions if possible.

I’m a guitarist and am looking to use the device more as a midi triggered multi output playback unit but with sequenced/automated fx on armed audio tracks rather than for making beats with the pads. However, I do need to run sequences as I have a few songs that need simultaneous 8 bar samples and feeding a click to a drummer.

My questions are:

1. Since the live has no noise gate effect or current ability to sidechain, I’m looking to simulate this via automation. Can anyone confirm automation on audio tracks works in 2.0 in controller mode and if this automation data can be loaded back into the Live for use in standalone?

2. Can I automate when an insert filter effect is triggered on/off with an audio track?

3. There seems to be a multitude of built in filter effects. Can anyone advise which one is closest to an envelope filter (e.g. EHX Qtron)?

The reason I ask about the controller mode 2.0 stuff is because I can’t return the unit for a refund if I decide it’s not what I need after activating the software.

I see you're in the UK, so that's not true, the sale of goods act now covers digital products (since 2015), so if the software is not fit for purpose or too buggy or missing features you can return it whether you've opened it or not. And we all know it's currently missing advertised features (e.g bluetooth and wifi support for a start).

Regardless this is ultimately a hardware product, not a software product, it's hardware run by software, which describes most things these days. If your smart TV didn't work properly due to rubbish software inside it I'm sure you wouldn't think twice about returning it, no different with an MPC Live.

Also the software also requires an activation code so if you return it, Akai could disable the code thus making the software unusable on your system.

Exactly. There's no software to "open", so it's a non-issue. It must be registered to you, and tied to the hardware S/N. If you sell / return the hardware, you just have to email InMusic to unregister the hardware, otherwise the next owner will find themselves stuck , unable to register or activate the software due them.

Thanks for the advice. Have installed and activated the software to enable controller mode so looks like a waiting game now for audio track automation in either mode.
