I think a lot of this comes down to the usual identity crisis of the MPC. It's not a 'fully fledged' anything, it's an easy to use jack of all trades, always has been, which is why it appeals (it's certainly why I initially bought my first MPC). From a personal perspective as a sound developer, editing by ear just doesn't cut it, but then again I never even vaguely contemplate using an MPC for any serious sound editing work so I guess it's ultimately a moot point. Still, would be nice to be able to do a bit more with the sample editor so I don't need to use other tools for a lot of more frequent tasks - i.e. crossfade looping, effect processing (i.e. processing samples in SAMPLE EDIT using the internal effects), copy/paste functions and so on.

I like to look at an MPC like an instrument; I work to master the device that exists.
