What's the relationship of audio tracks to sequences

I'm curious. Do audio tracks live within sequences or are they independent of sequences?

I haven't used the MPC 2.0 software, only the hardware (MPC Live).

I recorded some audio in an audio track. I made a duplicate of that sequence. I went to mute the audio track in the new sequence but the mute remains in both the original and duplicated sequences.

I'd like to not have the audio track play in the new sequence.

You can just look at audio tracks as one giant sample in the sequence. You can pitch and timestretch it but you wouldn't be able to adjust individual hits on the grid as you would for MIDI tracks because the sound is recorded in like a tape recorder. To adjust audio tracks you would have to punch in and out at certain parts and re-record it. Unlike MIDI, where if you don't like a snare sound, you can just easily assign a new snare to the grid.

So MIDI tracks would be good for creating backing beats with drums/bass and Audio tracks would be good to lay down a vocal verse, solo guitar or any instrument to accomodate the track.

Oddly, muting, (for example) audio track #1 will mute it across all sequences, but deleting the waveform from audio track 1 / seq. 1 is sequence-specific. You can have different audio in each instance of track 1, across multiple sequences.
