Question about keygroups. I am doing a complex prepared piano, so I am trying to get plenty of expression into it. My understanding is on the Live/X, within a program you may only have Cycle/Random or Velocity (to pick between layers), but not both - ie, not Cycle AND Velocity.

Sadly, this remains true, even though pads can be overlapped by adjusting the keygroup note range. If you could cycle between overlapping pads, you could have Vel + Cylce (ie 8 or more sample layers) but this doesn't appear to be possible. It seems like a missed opportunity to me, as the polyphony itself is not restricted, given that you can overlap pads :/ .

Anways, can you think of a work-around? At the moment, all I can think of is to have two Programs. One with 4 velocity layers, and the other also with 4 velocity layers but using alternative samples. Then just have two tracks for the piano patch. Obvious drawbacks with this, but I cannot think of a better way.

Any help here? Anyone done something like this yet?

You can assign it to pitch, velocity etc. And do it by different amounts to have more variety in your samples.

Yes someone at Gearslutz pointed this out to me. It's a good idea.

But when it comes down to it, I'd love to be able to cycle samples, as well as have velocity layers. I cannot think of any way to do this on the Live except by having more than one Program. I'm hoping someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
