I need help!
I bought an MPC Live because I have had trouble with my computer during live performances with my band, and believe the MPC would be a good solid, simpler solution than laptop+audio interface+midi controller keyboard+usb cables= crashes.
I had never used a MPC before, but have had a old S3000XL years ago, which I loved.
I have been using Kontakt for production work for years now and take many of its functions as a given, common sense.
So for my live performances I have been using Kontakt to play multiple "instruments" receiving the same midi channel from my keyboard midi controller, with each instrument having different sets of samples and multisamples mapped out across the range of the keyboard.
With a simple learning function, I can map out different cc messages to different instrument parameters and insert effects.
Now, I've only had the MPC Live for a week, but I'm not a novice in production and have navigated my way around it pretty fast. However, I don't seem to be able to get it to perform the most BASIC function a sampler that have LIVE on its name should do...
That is: TO PLAY MULTIPLE PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME RECEIVING MIDI NOTES FROM A EXTERNAL MIDI CONTROLLER KEYBOARD!
I know it should be capable of that because it plays multiple programs within a sequence, from its internal sequencer or step sequencer, plus clips and audio tracks.
But on my LIVE performances I don't want to rely on pre sequenced material, I want to play the samples LIVE.
I want to be able to control filter, volume, envelopes, LFO in different programs from my midi controller, sending different cc messages for different programs.
I should be ale to make this adjustments at program level, not only at key group level
Would I be asking for much to have a learn cc function at program level in 2018?
Oh, how about a portamento function? I had that in my S3000XL in 1997.
And what if I want to use Ableton or Cubase to build my songs, using the MPC simply as a sampler, why can't I choose individual programs midi channels?
Again, the S3000XL had the Multi mode where you could do that.
Why 2 sets of Midi ins and outs?
Am I missing a trick or two here, because if I am they must be well hidden.
I like the MPC machine, the pads are great, the buttons are smooth, the touch screen is a joy, the filter is smooth (but it distorts on the output at high resonances).
Anyway, enough ranting, please could someone tell me of any workarounds these bad engineering issues, or that a new upgrade will deal with these very soon?
I don't want to go back to my laptop...
