MPC BEST SSD

Heya!

Can someone suggest me what's the best SSD in order to expand the MPC X's memory?

I had two Samsung Evo 860 SSDs. One 1TB in my wife's MBP and a 500GB in my MPC4000. Both died in less than 3 months. I'm now on my 3rd & 4th from being RMA'd in New Jersey.
Due to the simplicity of the MPC X, maybe it'll work better on there.

Which ever drive you get. I always recommend to get the 120 gig or smaller version.

1. Easier to back up the drive.
2. Teaches Good data house keeping
3. When the drive fails and it will at some point. It is better to lose 120 gigs, than 500 gig or 1 Tb.

Not a very high percentage, but I've read about folks having problems with a recently produced batch.

These are twice the price. Not much faster according to the specs. What do these do that the "regular" EVO doesn't?

I'll be using a lot of multi-samples. I'm going at least 500GB. But yeah, you do lose a lot if/when they fail. I'll be backing it up often.

500 GB, that's a lot of Multi Samples, especially for a machine that only loads 1.4 gigs max into RAM. Now if they incorporate disk streaming, that could change things. Nevertheless, there are 2 kind of Hard Drives, one that crashed and one that will. Backup my friend, back up, because SSD just fail with no warning, no sound.

Not much because in standalone the SSD only reads/writes at USB 2.0 speeds.

Ha! I use a LOT of VSTs. I'll be creating instruments to have replacements on the go in stand alone mode. Once I get a feel for how detailed I can get without overloading the Live, I'll be creating instruments as detailed as possible... layers, chromatic, etc.

I have a bunch of old multi-samples on my Z4. You may be right though. I forget what size drive I have in there, but it's nowhere close to 500GB. Maybe 20GB. I'll check & multiply that to some degree. I didn't use the Z4 like I'm using the Live.

I've got a 1TB Samsung Evo in my Live and I'm about to run out of space on it.

The 500gb Samsung (probably 3 or 4 years old now) has been working great for me... I need to pop it out and reformat it though since it still has a restoration partition on it

Data management is the vain of our life. The bigger the drive the more we fill up. No matter what machine I get, I treat them all like a 10 second sampler. Optimize my space as much as possible.

Ouch, now you need 2 more 1TB SSD. One to transfer the original data to and one to back up to.

3 to 4 years old makes your SSD something like 80 years old in computer years. I realize SSD have a pretty long life span, well at least Industrial Grade SSD do. But these consumer grade SSD tend to be problematic. Especially, when they do SSD blow out sales, that's like selling cancer to people. RUN!!

I bought it new 3 to 4 years ago... and took it out of a system I hardly used. The SSD works great in the MPC, and as far as I can tell loads just as fast as the brand new SSD I tried in it. The MPC Live CPU and related architecture is definitely not cutting edge, so it doesn’t need the latest and greatest since the bus isn’t going to take advantage of any potential faster speed.

You do speak truth though... don’t pick up somebody else’s janky SSD, who knows where it came from or what abuse it went through!

I'm pretty anal about hard drives. They store the art we create. Crashing is not an option, I have a very limited amount of Trust for them.
