Detune/pitch automation impossible on Keygroup programs?

Hi everybody!

I'll try to be as clear as possible, please excuse the poor english from a French guy.

I've worked on a MPC live since 6 months, and other MPC since 20 years.
Usually, digging tutos, forum, manuals, friends brain....I always find a solution to my miserable failures.

But this time.......


Here is my problem: I want to make pitch automation on a bass track, played by a keygroup program.

I succeed to make this kind of automation on a drum program (using the program parameter in qlink edit mode)
I succeed to make freq shift automation on a keygroup program whith effect inserts.

BUT I failed doing a pitch automation on keygroup program. I tried using the program parameter method, AND whith the AIR pitch Shifter effect insert method.

Nothing works.

Both methods works live, but recording the automation seems impossible

Can you do that on your MPC live??? I spend 2 days on the unit and the Internet.......found no answer.


please save me from that un-detuned boring bassline, gimme that sweeping grooving moving pitch-shift which rocks the dance floor.

I noticed that too. Seems like the "Master Pitch" of a Keygroup Program cant be Automated. BUT....Pitch control of Individual Keygroups can be automated in the Samples Tab in the Prog Edit. Probably would take a lot of Processing Power to Automate Pitch Control of 20-30+ Keygroups simultaneously?
That's my Educated Guess.

My Workaround would be to Keep your Bass Track as One Keygroup, and Automate it from the Samples Tab(2nd dot) in Prog Edit!

Hi 40beats! Thanks for your answer! It's not completly solving my problem, since I needed the "momentary" action of the Q_link to achieve the perfect detune effect I was playing live ( and I think it's possible only through the Qlink edit menu assignation, where you cannot trigger such parameters as sample pitch) , but, still, this is a good workaround to know, tested, and it works, indeed
You are probably right, It would probably take too much processing power to automate many key groups simultaneously, didn't think about that ^^. Bad luck, considering It's a 3 notes bassline, and that it works live ^^, but nothing is perfect, even this so-lovable-machine.

The only option which will work for me I think is to bounce to samples and chop each note of the bassline to play them through a drum program. I think I'll go for it )

Yeah If its just a Few Notes, just load the Sample in a Drum Program. Maybe have '16 Levels' engaged? Then you can Automate it from there. Good Luck, Bruh!

I guess this is the best method we have for the moment ^^. Kind of workflow breaking, but tested, and it does the job perfectly. Thank's bro' !
