MPCX Firmware Update problems

I had problems with Firmware update from 2.0.7 to 2.5 on MPCX

I tried on different PC’s and iMac but always the same message, MPC X not detected!
After I set MPCX to receive the Firmware Upgrade and start the MPC2.x.xUpdaterWin.exe or the
.app on iMac computer.

This happens everytime after I click the Update MPC button.
Howmany times I tried, the message remain the same, MPC X not detected!

I did this for about 25 times without any luck.

Then it becames me clear that there must be a timing problem (FTP transfer??).
So I try to reconnect the USB-cable between iMac and MPCX very quickly, and hold it for a few seconds.
And wait for any ackn. either if the Progres Bar appears.
But not the first time, but after 5 retries the Progres Bar appears!
And the Firmware Update went succesfull.

This on a brandnew MPCX!

How difficult it can be…

At least now, you can update straight from the usb stick without having to deal with computer connection.

Indeed FW updates in advance can be done from USB stick.
But I wonder if I'm the only one who encounter these troubelsome updates?

I've had the same issues in attempting to firmware flash my MPC Live (current fw. 2.0.0). Frankly, its a paperweight at this point, as it hangs and crashes on fairly standard operations (simple sequencing for example). I've tried 4 different Windows machines, with various versions of the MPC Live software and drivers, and they've all failed to flash the firmware. Windows only sees the MPC as a Generic USB Hub device, never a media/sound device as it should. Frankly, I'm shocked at the lack of quality control on this box, but reading the reviews for inMusic group on Glassdoor, sheds some light as to why all of the problems with their recent gear. *sigh* If only Ensoniq was still in business.

You are going to have to uninstall the MPC Live drivers, restart. Use a driver cleaner to make sure they are uninstalled, and then install the software and drivers again. You have to follow the prompts when it calls for a reset.

A lot of us had trouble with the initial computer connections when the Live dropped, some others didn't have any trouble at all. Don't give up, after 2.2 you can start updating via the USB stick.

I'm a systems engineer by day - yes, I've done all of the things you've mentioned. I've gone around and around with Akai's overworked and underpaid techsupport group. I'm at a point where I've started planning creation of my own simple sampler/sequencer without any of the bullshit "functionality" that folks like me don't want or need.
