I'm new to the MPC X and these forums, but have had 1k JJOS and 4k for years.
I've run into something I can't get around. I have recorded an 8 bar drum take. I like whats happening from bars 5 through 8, and a 4 bar loop will do me. I want to get rid of the first 4 bars of the track. I havent found a way to do it. In JJOS this was very possible and easy, I could select how much of a loop I wanted to delete and it would truncate the loop. Impossible? Am I missing something obvious? I have googled all day but no luck. thanks

if it is just a sample, just set start & end points in SAMPLE EDIT with the Qlinks and then select process (trim) - this will delete all audio out of start/end point
if in PROGRAM EDIT, you can set start & end points, it will trigger the sample from that start point (until the end point), so it is non-destructive

Thanks for the reply tiger, no, I’m just talking about a midi track here. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I’m talking about track edit on midi notes which are triggering a drum program. I’ve been trying to do it from the piano roll and no joy. I can shorten my 8 bar loop to 4 bars by changing the loop length, but that gets rid of the part of the groove I want to keep (the second four bars)

Different ways to accomplish it. You can Erase/Move/Copy the Notes in Grid View.

Or you can hit the Pencil Icon in the Sequence field on the main page. Select Events, Copy Bars 5-9 to Bar 1...with 2 copies, Hit Replace.

There's probably a couple other ways to do it too

That’s a great workaround, thanks! I never thought about making 2 copies, that will work!!! I don’t think there is a way to do it from within track edit however.

or you can tell the sequence on the MAIN screen to just play/loop bars 5-9 and evt. delete unused bars

(watch out with this cause i encountered an error with this ; if you insert such a 'truncated' sequence into a song, it will play full length - this is confirmed by AKAI so should be corrected)
