I'm skimming through the mpc bible (which is amazing btw), and I haven't found it yet, but I just want the 10 second hi hat sample to stop playing immediately when I stop the sequence instead of it finishing playing.

Not quite.

So I hit play start on my beat. The kick and snare are one hit samples, and the hi hat is a 1 bar loop.

In program edit > LFO Modulation, if i have ONE SHOT selected, when I STOP the beat, the hi hat plays through the rest of the loop.

If I have NOTE ON selected, the hi hat only plays for a split second.

I'm trying to let the loop play as it wants, but if I hit STOP, I want ALL sounds to stop, I don't want to listen to the rest of the 1 bar hi hat loop. Is there a way to do this? Kind of important as it incorporates part of my live set up.

EDIT: I have just figured out a workaround unless there is a real way to do this. Take an empty pad and apply a MUTE TARGET to the Looped Hi Hat pad. Now when I hit STOP, I can hit STOP, AND the empty pad with the MUTE TARGET on it at the same time and it will stop the looped Hi Hat... only downside is that it takes 2 hands to do it as well as losing one of the 16 pads since you'll need a dedicated mute target pad.

If you use one shot you have to be timed right. With note on you have to hold it down during the time you want it to play.

chopping it properly and program your own vibe to the loop. Chop that 4 bar loop into 16 slices match the bpm and play the loop how you want, you will find this the way to get change ups going especially with melodies. There a lot that going’s into this including bpm, number of bars etc, when you figure this out you have the basics down, there not enough info for me to help properly.

You can use half or double your bpm and still program the loop right, example. You can double time a 55 bpm loop into a 110 or half time a 110 bpm with a 55 bpm sample. Depends what you have vs what you exactly need.

So, set it to Note On, and instead of using a little 16th note to trigger it just draw a note the whole bar, adjust the envelope to cut if off as you want it.

I never use One Shot, theres no reason to. Its still only one note in the sequence its just longer and you can do things like stop and make a breakdown for the last half of a bar or something. Cant do that when everything is triggering the entire sample every time and it has to play through to the end.

I don't know if this is the answer that you're looking for, but are you simply wanting everything to stop completely when you press stop?

...if you press stop twice, it stops everything.

Otherwise, you're going to have to go with everyone else's suggestions.

To me....the simple answer is....set the 10sec Hi Hat to "Note On" in the Modulation Screen. Then Trigger the sample Appropriately in the Sequence.

Or....Chop up the Hi Hat Sample and trigger the individual notes in the Sequence
