Is the battery in the MPC worth it?

If the MPC LIVE didn't have a battery. How many people would've still bought it and most importantly why? No answer is wrong, because it's your choice.

It’s cool to have it. Use it once in a while. But wasn’t a buying factor at all. Would have bought a Live with or without it, because I wanted a newer generation stand alone MPC.

I think it is. It not like I’m really taking it to the beach or driving around making beats, but I hardly ever have it plugged in 7nless it needs to charge. I know batteries are different these days, but I remember what having a cell phone always charging did back in the day as it turned my flip phone into a “corded” flip phone lol.

Like I said it was pretty cool initially, especially when I could take it on my smoke breaks with me. But that novelty kind of wore off, plus I don’t have the same space I did before. I had a garage and a nice patio to chill on. Now not so much.

I can understand that. What did it replace for you?

Reducing one's work place, tend to help trim away the fat. Makes you start looking at what, you really use. What other features of the LIVE do you find yourself, unable to part with?

Definitely the upgraded sampling features, audio tracks and rendering stems. The effects and all that are cool but I’m way more into rack and pedal effects, just my thing I guess.

Ive kind of come full circle, right now I could prolly get by with a mpc 4000 with the exception of audio tracks. I really like to program stuff with minimal gear. Maybe a synth or iPad( sometimes a pedal or filter box ) and the mpc, construct my songs, track into it the base of my song. that’s also where the battery comes in, I move around my house a lot but that’s not to say I couldn’t do it without a battery as the other gear I use with the live needs cords, but just makes it simpler. Sometimes I setup with my iPad and mpc on the dinner table, I have a desk with a small keyboard on it I move to, my couch, and of course my little work desk with computer, a few racks and now broken asr.

In all honesty I could work with just a live and a mixing board and a few effects, where as with the mpc 4000 that wouldn’t be as easy when rendering tracks or resampling my outputs in sync like with audio tracks.

So you are mainly on headphones?

Only when I really want to focus on sounds, like filtering/effects or sampling/audio tracks. Overall I just use my bose Bluetooth speaker With the 1/8 “ line in. . For programming drums and making melodies it seems to work fine. I do so with the impression I will get more refined when I take it to the computer and the monitors I have. Which needs to happen WAY more often. Lol

For a lot of the time when I first got the live , I was on the road a lot and most of that was all on headphones, and rendered from my mpc and plugged right into my car.

Actually recently looked into some very small monitors but I already have a set... why spend money to be lazier. Even though I seen some for like 150 with 4 year financing LOL they should be better than my little Bose speaker, but ya never know lol

I still would've bought it for the size really. I wanted an X of course, but couldn't spend that much, and my space here was arranged around the Studio, so I literally didn't have any room to get an even bigger MPC. Still wish I had one, really for the I/O, but the Live is just perfect on the desktop. I thought the battery was going to be the most awesome thing in the world. I could wander around the house and work on shit, play the Nintendo out in the living room and make some patches, etc.. Thing hasn't left the 'studio' once. Ive used the battery a few times, in here on the desk, just to run it down and keep it from getting wasted. If the headphone output gave you a mix of everything Id use it more outside here, but I use all six outputs so its a pain in the ass switching them all back and forth just to go from headphones back to the mixer/monitors. I think you mentioned it in the One thread Charles, I also just prefer sitting here in front of my monitors when Im using it.

I would have bought it anyway, coming from a 1000. But lately i have been enjoying the battery function.

i think it would have been great to have a way to link the main stereo outputs wirelessly (maybe via bluetooth) ... imagine having a bluetooth reviever connected to a channel on the mixer or speakers (or bluetooth headphones) and it is fully wireless. that might have been cool. It is cool being able to take the thing anywhere in the house or even in the studio room itself to sample stuff quick without having to rearrange an entire existing setup.
