Can’t get mpc one to recognize computer

I’m trying to use the mpc one in controller mode and for some reason, it just stays on the red “searching for computer” screen. I have the latest software and firmware, I restarted the mpc and computer after installing, I tried all the USB ports and two different usb cables and it just does the same thing. I know my computer sees it because it let me install the firmware. I cannot figure it out, it’s probably something simple. Any ideas?

Which Mac/Windows os are you running on the computer?

Maybe obvious but once it is “searching for computer“, did you open the MPC software on your computer?
