Logic Pro Plug-in - work flow/capabilities

What’s up everyone,

So I’m trying to wrap my head around the Logic Pro plug-in and all the possibilities that come with it.

Here’s the Gear I’m working with:
Mpc Live, Scarlett 6i6, Bass Station 2, Orange 35rt amp (w/pedals), various mics

Ideally I’d like to start my beats in standalone, then once I’m organized, throw everything into logic where I can lay down guitar/bass/synth/vox on top via the Scarlett.

Additionally, I’d like to be able to record jam sessions between myself on the mpc and a buddy on guitar at the same time, (all tracks separated)

Is this possible? What would you recommend For my signal chain/ workflow/ I/O set up???


Another question: I’ve got the MPC plug-in open in Logic and I’m trying to load projects I’ve made in standalone mode but it won’t let me do it. The only projects it will let me select are ones I’ve previously made in Controller mode.

Is it possible to load my standalone projects? If so, what have I done wrong in my set up in Logic, or what do I need to do to make this possible?

Yes this is possible. There are several ways on how to throw everything into logic too. You just have to figure out what's best and easiest for you.

This is also possible. But you do have to create a song first, if you don't want to be stuck to a loop. Though i would think it's probably easier just do this once you're in Logic.

And just a side note...

With the release of Logic 10.5, there's really no reason to use the MPC plugin. On its own, the new Logic sampler does what the MPC does, and a lot more, and a lot better. Add to that, the MPC plugin is hot garbage.

Either use the MPC, or use Logic. I wouldn't try to use both together. I use one or the other, but never both at the same time.

I don't use logic or the mpc software myself so i can't say anything on how that works.

BUT, you don't have to use the mpc software.. You can still use the mpc and logic together. Just make your music on the mpc, and then record the audio tracks into logic (or use the explode to audio function in the mpc live and you can import all the seperate wav's in logic on seperate tracks), and continue from there. I could recommend to do the recording part of the guitar in logic for instance. For mixing i personally also prefer a daw with the audiotracks.

And with 2.8 you could import the midi and continue sequencing in logic and send to the mpc and return it over 16
audio channels while you add to the track Instead of bouncing audio.

That's why I looked at mpc originally as a drum module not realising they were only Omni in.

Yep, now Logic has a sampler that can actually record audio, and they implemented the Redmatic algorithms. I can’t believe it: Logic users have been waiting ten years for this.

Yes, this is what I do. My bad, wasn't considering using that "together". Should have said I don't recommend using them "at the same time - integrated".

But definitely co-sign for this approach. It's what I do too.

Thats how I roll. Just sync the MPC over Network MIDI with Logic. Use the MPC for the MPC stuff, play with Alchemy and Absynth in Logic along side it. Record all my tracks in Logic when its finished. Profit.

Alot longer than 10 years. The EXS was neat when it first dropped in like 2002 or so, but it got old and passed up REAL quick.
