MPC Live 2.8 firmware and Organelle synth via MIDI USB

Hi, there, the new 2.8 firmware update is truly a really good one. thanks.

But I’m trying now to connect my MPC Live via MIDI USB with my Critter&Guitari Organelle but strangely the Organelle doesn’t recognize the MPC in the listed devices. I’m using USB Type-B port, the same cable as I would to connect my computer to the MPC. (so USB-A into organelle- USB B on MPC).

If I’m using the initial PIN Midi out with a MIDIMate eX converter, then it works but the main thing about the new 2.8 firmware is to be able to use fully USB midi class compliant over MPC live usb port in order to control it. Am I missing something here?

Does the MPC Live fully USB midi class compliant over that usb port?

The type B port on the MPC I suspect will only work the way you are expecting in controller mode. When you're in standalone mode the MPC doesn't allow the USB type B port to do anything (mount midi, audio, storage, etc...)

Well, how to we get USB midi then with the new firmware?

I've got it working on the USB A ports on my MPC X... OP-1 and OP-Z work fine. I can try a few others later.

Is there any specific cable then? Did you use a USB Type A to type A cable?

Been trying to do a similar thing with the ipad and a lighting connector kit. I don't have a USB A to A, cobbled a USB A-to-A together with a USB C-to-A adapter, but didn't work.

I’ve been trying to do that one too like with the Moog 15 with no luck. Wasn’t there any Midi bluetooth something is that update as well? I’ve read it somewhere. Gosh, all these informations spread all around twitter, instagram… mmh…no good. What a fragmented world. I’ve posted something on the Organelle forum as well. @nicolasbulb why not using the TRS midi ? Organelle is a usb host &not interface ,so it’s not going to work over usb by connecting it to other usb host (mpc) .
2.8 update is for connecting multiple usb midi interfaces . Hope it helps.

TRS midi? My Organelle is not the M, it’s the original but rev 2019 version with Midi over USB. I can use a USB to Midi PIN converter. But I get your point about the host but how come it’s working with a OP-1 or OP-Z. They are hosts too, I guess? Why the limitation with the MPC Live?

I can confirm that even with a USB-A to A cable going into the CCKit that the iPad still wont register the MPC as a midi device. I’m using my old iconnectmidi2+ to get the MPC One and iPad to work together.

Yeah, therebis SO much misinformation out there... very frustrating.
There should be informative, unbiased websites that categorize devices/compatibility etc

you would need an USB to Midi DIN.

Why not try bluetooth?

OP-1/Z act as a usb midi interface when connected to a host , they are not hosts , that’s why you can’t play them by directly connecting a usb keyboard . They need a host (Kenton , iPhone , raspberry , pc and of course mpc )
But agree , mpc should act as a usb midi interface on both controller/standalone (via usb B port)

The OP-Z can act as a USB host or USB device over the USB-C port. So it can function as a controller as a device with the MPC One/Live/X, but it can also function as a host so you can do tricks like hook up the OP-Z and OP-1 together over the USB-C port on the OP-Z and the USB mini port on the OP-1.
