I've managed to sample music from my phone which is fine - although I do think the volume is quite low I had to max out the Input volume, but ignored it.
Tonight I found an old battery powered Rode mic for a camera and when I plug that into the inputs I can't hear a thing. I've plugged the same mic and wiring into a Zoom recorder and it appears fine.
I've checked the input volume too and that's maxed out again - any ideas? Do I have a faulty One?

My mpc live v1 has a similar problem. I highly rec getting a quality small mixer $100-300 to boost the signal.

This will also give you quality phantom power.
It also allows you to handle more than 2 inputs

On my Live 2, the inputs work fantastic with my Ibanez bass - I don't need anything else, but for a dynamic mic I also have to turn the gain up pretty high. This was the same on my Live 1 as well. I caved and picked up a Roland VT-4 second hand to insert between the two, and it works great.
