For example, make a 16 bar audio recording, duplicate it... but how do you merge it so it becomes a single 32 bar recording?

Are there multiple ways of doing this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You can copy paste the audio track in MAIN > AUDIO EDIT (increase the number of bars in the seqeunce first)

You can double sequence length, which will duplicate all tracks into the next 16 bars.

Both of the above will just create additional copies of the original 16 bar audio track, they will not create a single, merged audio track. The MPC does not have a 'merge' feature, even in SAMPLE EDIT.

If you really need to create a single 32 bar audio file, you can't use the track bounce option on an audio track but you could export the project with 'explode tracks' enabled. This would create a single 32 bar audio file from your copy/pasted audio track.

Ok, I ended up doing it by copying events and sending the audio to an unused sequence and then bouncing to sample. You can "freeze" effects this way (or turn them off).

It's a little work, but makes it much easier to adjust volume in audio edit, at least for me.

Hmmm, does the MPC X allow for "ghost" copies of audio? I.e. if you change the volume on the source, do (ghost) copies of that source also reflect a change like that?

If it does not, it would be a big benefit, since that would save memory and ease the workflow. Also, different effects could potentially be applied to the copies, than the original.

I don't use audio tracks on the X much, so I don't knw much about them.

Ok Actually the sampler is what you want, just choose resample as input and solo your track and you can record however many bars and then save or assign to a program/pad

Thanks for all the suggestions! I realized that making longer takes, though good for adjusting volume in individual sequences was helpful, also eats up memory. I guess that's why "ghost" duplicates is the default. (Though it all lives in RAM anyway so...) Besides after getting everything arranged where I like it's easy enough to convert to a single sequence I can then ride out gear faders to anyway.

If its an audio track you can convert the long file into flac and massively reduce its size and impact on memory while losing no audio quality. Flac files loads and plays in a programs/keygroups but save as wave and programs wont read flac files when reopened so it has to be an audio track or clip i believe, unless they updated this behavior.

A late response, but also a heads up that while FLAC files may save disk space, the MPC converts them to WAV when loading them into memory.
