MPC One SD Card

Morning All,

I currently have an MPC One on order, so am impatiently waiting for UK stock.

In the meantime, I thought it would be a good idea to get my samples organised onto an SD card so I can hit the ground running as soon as it arrives.

My question is essentially about the best way to lay out my folder structure. Currently it just really reflects the sample packs that I've bought IE a top folder for the pack itself, and then the related sub folders for loops, hits, melodics etc.

My question is, will the MPC One be able to navigate this clearly? I understand that the browser isn't it's strongest point? Would I be better grouping all. my kicks, snares etc together regardless of the original sample pack. Finally, I think i read somewhere that the browser can't read tags, is that correct?

You can set 5 favourite folders in the MPC browser to get quickly to the places you use most.

You are correct, it cannot read tags and yes, the browser is not the strongest point. Your question highlights a big limitation of the browser; organisation. Basically it's entirely folder based, so you can't just hit a tag and display all the 808 kicks across your entire collection, you must manually create a folder of all your 808 kits. So you need to make a choice - organise by samplepack or organise by instrument.

If you rename your entire sample collection to contain keywords in the file name itself, you can 'filter' the contents of the current folder only. So for example a file with the name 'Kick-808 Kick Long.wav' would show up on a keyword 'filter' for '808' or 'kick' etc. But that means you have to basically put all your samples in a single folder (and of course rename your entire collection). The MPC cannot 'search' across your library. It's really poor in this respect and makes sample organisation and management a real ball ache.
