I've started a forum question on MPC X Swing several times this week, but eventually bungle through to an apparent solution before I post. But inevitably, some new confusion comes up before long.
Most of the time the issue has been a variation of "why is the swing application not changing my notes?"
Eventually I found a this quote in a longer interview with Roger Linn:
So if I count as '1 ee and uh 2 ee and uh 3 ee and uh 4 ee and uh' that's saying only notes that land on "ee" and "uh" are going to be shifted by the swing parameter? That is, if I am just playing high-hat as `1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and`, applying swing is going to do nothing to it.
If that's correct, than many of my issues boiled down to "well, there were no notes occurring on swingable parts of a beat.
But it leads to a new question: Does the TC Time Division setting have any impact on the behavior of the Swing? In my current test example, I have it at 1/16th. If I changed the grid to 1/32 or 1/8 would the swing instead move even numbered 1/32ths or 1/8ths notes instead?

Eventually I found a this quote in a longer interview with Roger Linn:
"My implementation of swing has always been very simple: I merely delay the second 16th note within each 8th note. In other words, I delay all the even-numbered 16th notes within the beat (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) In my products I describe the swing amount in terms of the ratio of time duration between the first and second 16th notes within each 8th note."
