You used to be able to do this on the 1000/2500/500. It meant you could play and manipulate a drum program but each time you pressed a pad it sent out MIDI info. I utlisied this have pads trigger videos corresponding with their sounds. Was super useful for this project.

I'd like to continue working on this 11 years on the modern gear. But the only way I can figure out for the X to output MIDI is for it be set to a MIDI track which means I can't manipulate drum program sounds. Even this seems janky (only seen to be able to use three of the eight banks).

Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure about the sending the drum and midi off the same pad. However if you want access to all the pad banks when using midi. Go to pad perform and turn it off. That would give access to all 8 pad banks.

EDIT Update on your first issue.

On the MPC X make two tracks.

Track 1: Drum Track
Track 2: MIDI Track

On the Track 1 (Drum Track), click the eyeball and send it to Track 2 (Midi Track). Go back to Track 1 (Drum Track) So when you press PAD 1 on the drum track, it will play the sound on that pad and send MIDI from track 2, to whatever device you have connected. Then you can still manipulate the drum program and send MIDI out.

Just make sure you setup Track 2 (Midi Track) to send MIDI OUT.

Charles, thank you so much man! Seriously. :worthy:

I've been wanting to do this for so long but I never though about essentially bussing the info to a MIDI track. Brilliant. I so appreciate that clear help, and the time to make the screenshots. Also, you were right on re: pad perform being the route of the limited banks issue.

This is great. Now to find some VJ software and try and make this project work! Looking to cop a Live II. The build in speaker and battery are ideal for this BUSK project. I wish I had that in 09/10!

Thank you again! And sorry for the delay. I thought I'd get an email if someone responded.
